Evolution of big power Coupes, Behind the times?

When I had my powerful(ish) 20vt in 2005 it was at around 290bhp,

At that time, There were not that many powerful 20vt's,

Flea had 250bhp lol, DR Frag had a very quick one, and a few others from the old fold etc...

It just seems the big guns have evolved years after every ther tuner, Evo, Impreza, Cossie etc had 500,600,700bhp+ Way way ago..

Now most coops are onto 300bhp with a little tune and money..

Its a good thing, But where were all the tuning options back then, were they really that limited option wise?

Hybrids were the thing then, any bigger then you had to be minted to afford it...

The 4G63, RB26, SR20, etc engines have been around in some form or another since the early 90's. Being Japanese and 4WD, they are a lot more popular than a Fiat. A lot more tuning options.

What I will say is that way back when, I spend £2000 (maybe slightly more) to get close to 300bhp whereas you can achieve that figure spending around £1000 these days.

the difference,when talking about cossie yb and rb26 engines is their racing heritage,the engines and management had to be homologated,therefore the engines are STRONG for more power,and the people tuning them for racing moved into tuning road cars for more cash.all the stronger parts were being produced so there was a wealth of parts and expertise.with the coupe you have had to wait for people who were enthusiasts of the roadcar to get into tuning as there were no race cars,parts,specialists available.
