Paint correction

Paint correction - 04/07/2010 19:01

I'm knackered, and I was only watching!

Patch234 aka Phil has just spent the best part of two days sorting my paintwork. Despite the fact that it was treated to a high-quality respray three years ago, 100,000+ miles has taken its toll, and the finish was very swirly.

Add to this a replacement bonnet with a rather low-end respray and my car was looking decidedly tired

So - I agreed to part with some cash and let Phil use my car as a demo for his paint correction service. I've hovered over him for the many, many hours that he's put into this, and I can honestly say, he's treated my car as if it were his own.

Anyway, a picture paints a thousand words, so here's the essay wink

Arrived at Motormech - Phil already hard at work on my car

A bit more cleaning kit than most Coupe owners

It was dirty....

...VERY dirty

the Wizard himself

before and after - not how much more crisp the reflection is on the right hand side

it was a really hot day - used a pop-up gazebo to get some heat off the car

coming along nicely

applying the wax

Phil will tell you what it is - V. expensive

right hand side of the car finished

that was it for Saturday - I drove it home with the driver's side all shiny and the nearside still mucky.

Onto Sunday - early arrival at Phil's house

Quick wash - the driver's side gave some lovely water beading

NOW you can see the difference

snow-foam

into the nooks and crannies

I'm ashamed - yuk!

mopping the nearside

reflecting on a good day's work

I didn't sit down ALL day - I did this...

...and these...

even Phil couldn't sort this out frown

more reflections...

...and some more...

and the best one - just look how clear the image is

I'm chuffed - the car looks amazing laugh Huge thanks to Phil for all his hard work

Excellent work there. That was seriously a grubby car to start with!

2 days work certainly are evident in that paint. thumb

Re: Paint correction - 04/07/2010 21:14

Thanks for that Nigel, it's been a great few days. I'm really pleased with the results achieved. Makes all the effort worthwhile. Thanks also to Paul at Motormech and to the guy's that turned up on Saturday.

It was an really good day today, nice company, interesting cnversation (about coupes of course) and I'm sure Nigel picked up a few pointers smile

Worst part was realising my dog preferred Nigel's company to mine (little bugger)

The best part of the day was the finished results and the ride in Nigel's car. My god!!

Here's two of my favourite shots..

Awesome indeed. Even my brother is inspired to get his Maserati Gransport (immaculate condition) to be done.

Well I am hoping to get Phil over to get mine done within the next few weeks. Going for the top service.

Cant wait TBH..

Phil, such work just inspires.. truly well done!!!

Nige, you must have a huge smile.

Yes - still looking, as I simply want a newer Coupe, without the rust issues

However, I now need to find the cause of my exploding coilpacks problem

As I said last week - the niggles are never-ending - I just wish the car would give me some time off from mending it

Re: Paint correction - 05/07/2010 08:43

not bad at all is it mate wink

Looking at your pics phil - your polisher, is that the one on the cam so the head moves in two different directions at the same time?

Re: Paint correction - 05/07/2010 08:55

Yes I have a DA (Dual Action Head Rotary). It's a lot safer than a non- oscillating rotary. It produces less heat (less speed) so there is reduced possibility of paint burn (strike-through) especially on body corners and panel edges.

With the DA, correct pad and polish choice is more important. Get the right and job done thumb

Re: Paint correction - 05/07/2010 09:19

Excellent work, looks stunning!!
Patch - Whats combi of pads/polish did you use??

Re: Paint correction - 05/07/2010 09:24

Hexlogic cutting pad, 3m yellow,
Lime prime, Sonus & Menzerna Power Finish (Dependent on level of paint correction needed for individual panels)

Re: Paint correction - 05/07/2010 09:30

I went down to motormech on the day and i have to say. the pics of it cleaned dont do the actual job justice it looks loads better when your there and see it in the flesh.

Phil is a very patient man, there is no way i could actually do what he did think i would of committed suicide after the first ten mins.

Although the finished product does look amazing, and a very good price for the amount of work he does.

Phil

As you know, I am literally just across the road from you and will be interested in you doing an Alfa or two of mine. I will give you a buzz soon and we can sort something out. I have a faded pink alfa 155 Q4 up the road that you can use as a demonstrator anytime :-)

Re: Paint correction - 05/07/2010 16:37

Someone should do a High-Def clip of Patch's work, like the ones done by Miracle Detail (check youtube).. along with hi-res pics.. that would serve as an excellent showpiece of coop detailing.
