Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 10:08

it is repairable yes but pushing it out yourself will still look crap. I bet most bodyshops will want to put a new rear quarter on it that's where its going to be big money.

Oh censored! That's bad! I feel for you mate frown better get to a body shop fr a quote, they're guna want to paint alot of the car to blend the repair in.

There's a mint Porto shell up for sale soon

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 10:27

Thanks guys, I'm gutted.

According to ePER, rear quarter panel is £300!
Door is also slightly damaged, but can live with that (for now)

Think I'll have a hunt for a second hand rear quarter, whatever colour!

Is it worth taking this to an insurance claim? Knowing book prices on Coops they'll probably class this as a write-off rolleyes

I'm so censored pissed off right now grr

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 10:58

Gutted to see this matey, get it to a bodyshop and see what gets said I'm sure you can salvage it though it might hurt the wallet!

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 11:20

It was parked up in a little town crammed full of chavs and little old grannies. Don't know which team to blame!

Think I'm just going have to live with it, can't afford anything at the moment.

It hasn't quite hit me what's occured yet. Just angry, sure the tears will come later :-(

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 11:57

Don't worry matey we're all getting a bit unlucky lately. My manifold's blowing and turbo's going and she's hesitating slightly when coming on the throttle. Not feeling the love for the Sprinty atm!

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 13:33

Looks like a straight forward repair and far, far cheaper to repair than to replace that panel.

Get a quote from any decent bodyshop, porto isn't the hardest colour to blend either.

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 14:36

Agree with the above, that's repairable alright, the stress of a whole rear quater stitching in no way.

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 28/07/2010 14:52

Any chance of CCTV from the council?
Hope this gets sorted out.
Can't believe some people.

We don't know what this CCTV thing is you speak of in this fair district, the council would ask the local witch if she could look back in time and seee if she saw anything.

looks as though someone pissed up has clipped you, definately worth reporting, the police might already know who it was.

Unlucky Eks. Feel for you mate

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 29/07/2010 09:14

I suspect the pissed up theory is the correct one.

We had a local country show that day, lots of people drinking all day long and town was busy as hell with everyone in the pubs.

Thanks for your kind words people. I'm still just at a loss as to what to do cry

I don't think an insurance claim would amount to anything as being a youngish driver my excess is £500, so barely worth it really.

Gutted for you Eks. Really upsets me when someone can do this and drive off.

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 29/07/2010 11:04

Gutted for you, had a sick feeling looking at that (your car / wheels are very similar to mine).

They must have been wasted to make that sort of mess, and totally immoral not to leave their details (I'm guessing worried about being breathalysed - but surely they could have left them and then buggered off!?)

Hope you get it sorted ok on the insurance, make sure you choose the bodyshop, not them though!

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 30/07/2010 18:02

Looks terribly familiar - only mine was due to being in too much hurry around a tighter-than-expected multi-storey. I was quoted silly money for that, and have just been driving it in that sorry state since frown As it was, I got cut up by a GTi a few months later and another big dent on the same side anyway.

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 30/07/2010 22:29

Mate that's terrible.

This is what I got woken up to a couple of years ago:

A couple of drunken gits in a stolen Renault traffic took out 5 cars in a row, my 164 24valve Cloverleaf was the first - it was written off, I got £450!

But TBH my 164 was wrecked, all 4 wheels cracked, gearbox smashed, all panels on RHS wrecked, A pillar bent.......

Back to yours though' have a chat with a paintless dent repair man, they can work miracles.

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 30/07/2010 23:43

Sorry to hear about this Eks.

Does the damage in the picture remind anyone else of what happened to Belfastjohn's Coupe? Looks like vandalism to me.

Absolutely appalling.

Re: You thought your parking dings were bad... - 31/07/2010 10:30

I still think that it's caused by a higher car, probably a people carrier, sideswiping your car, only something with mass would cause the crease down the middle.
No vandal could do that, unless he had a pet rhino.. know any of those?
You could probably pop most of the dent out, the crease on the middle is a bit harder.
Have you tried getting to it from the inside?
Just try gently, no hammers.
Serarch YouTube for PDR for loads of tips.

JESUS! That's gutting mate!

I've got a mate who is going have a go at the dent, I've seen some of his work n he's pretty good. He also has a paint guy who will do the scratches for next to nowt if I supply him with paint.

Niff - Don't think I'll have to take up that offer, but if the dent removal goes balls up I'll be in touch with you and John. Cheers for the offer bud.

To everyone else - thank you for the words of comfort.
I'll get poor Belano sorted, but for now, she's going have to look a bit of a mess.

To make matters worse, I've gone and put a crease in the other rear quarter myself down some godawful farm track in the middle of nowhere picking up a couple of lasses (that's another, far more enjoyable story wink )
