Mikey's mile high club - 23/03/2011 13:00

Today, after 6 1/2 years in my ownership, my beloved LE has finally hit....

cool cool cool 200,000 miles cool cool cool

...and I used to think 100,000 was a lot of miles !

This car is still a joy to drive and owes me nothing, she flew through the MOT last week

Thanks to all the friendly & helpful people on here who continue to keep me excited about things Coupe. thumb yes yum

Now for the future do I :-

o Keep her and tart the bodywork up

o Keep her as is, and continue to maintain her mechanically

o Sell her, and buy a lower mileage model

- how about a moderator poll ?

Here are some photos of her scrubbed & Gliptoned from a couple of weeks ago....

Well done Mike - its a huge achievement and commitment to get a Coupe to 200k

From my own experience, the mechanicals area relatively easy to keep on top of - just throw some money Motormech's way and it'll run forever.

However, if the body goes rusty, it's curtains, so my advice would be to make sure the tin-worm doesn't get hold - pay attention to the underside, the wheelarches, the boot floor and the flitches - all these areas were holed on my Sprinty

Mile high club? More like somewhere in the ionosphere!

From the pictures the bodywork looks just fine - if you are happy with her then keep her going and keep her tidy. No tarting required IMHO. As Nigel says, just keep an eye on the dreaded metal moth. May be worth having her undercoated if not already done - JBT has done a good job on my Scottie; perhaps Paul does the same stuff. Peace of mind......

seriously well done Mike, it's a great achievement and a lovely example of the LE. having had a ride round a couple of tracks in it, i'd never have guessed it was that mileage as it feels very sprightly for an old lady laugh

Re: Mikey's mile high club - 23/03/2011 16:07

She looks great in the pics. Would never had guessed she has covered so many miles. You call her your beloved LE. You have had her for 6 1/2 years. You must have looked after her. You could get rid of her and buy a lower mileage model and have nothing but problems. If she was mine I would keep her until it was uneconomical to keep her. I would make sure she gets what she needs. From the pics I would leave the bodywork how it is.

Congrats on keeping her looking as good as she does and for running as long as she has thumb

Re: Mikey's mile high club - 23/03/2011 20:43

keep her and spend some money on keeping the tin worm away and maybe some fresh paint of the front is stone chipped or a full respray is the money permits.

mine has done 140k off the top of my head and non of them has been done by me cry

320.000 kms ooo ooo ooo ooo that´s amazing, nice job.

His the engine stock? And have you had any problems or just the normal things?

The Coupé engine is really something.

Cheers guys, I've never had the engine opened up during my ownership (since 106,000) it could be the original lump even.

Why sell it and buy a low miler? It looks like a low miler laugh

Great stuff, hope mine makes it that far.

Looks stunning Mike, keep it, thats a better example even after 200k than some £4-5k cars that sell on here.

And here I was gonna stick a post up asking if I should be getting worried about anything now my Coop has turned 140K (80K by myself) miles laugh !

Well done Mike your an inspiration to us all cool . I don't think my Coupé's body will make 200K but I've still got a spare body I can transplant everything into when things get too bad thumb .

Re: Mikey's mile high club - 24/03/2011 22:00

Brilliant stuff Mikey thumb
If ever there was an example of looking after a car well showing that mileage is nothing its Mikes LE.......
Also a fantastic illustration that these cars can be used.
Keep going MC - next tea break at work = more buffing matey driving drink bow bow bow ....and a sneaky midnight Warwick 'lap' !

Re: Mikey's mile high club - 25/03/2011 08:26

definitely don't sell it, not in the current climate, I know all us soldiers on here appreciate what it is & that mileage is no issue..

but a non forum member coupe 'civvy' would be put off & want it for £500 grr

200k and it goes like hell, and your seats are in better condition than mine.

Yes original engine & box as far as I know, glad you like my red bag ! - I can't get on with the standard gear knob, too big n chunky - hence the aftermarket bag, which is in keeping with the red LE 'slagbag' interior cool
