I was up that way in my Portofino Blue 20v the week before Christmas. Would have gone down Fulford Road, droven around town, then near the station, then back again a couple of times in 2 or 3 days. Here's hoping this was the first sighting of me ! Whereabouts did you see it/me?

Hi, i'm new to the forum can anyone recommend a good garage near leeds where i can get a chip and a few parts fitted please. Sprint Blue 20VT. Plus has anyone else seen a red 20vt with a kit on and a private plate?

Re: West Yorkshire - 13/03/2006 17:07

Hi there, Autosonic in Horsforth have been known to fit a few parts and upgrades, though they do specialise in bodywork. Steer clear of Turin Motors though. Not sure of any local specialists, I like many others get mine serviced at Motormech in Brum.

If you want to know about bodykits and how they look, stick a post in the style section and you'll have more pictures posted than you can shake a stick at

Re: West Yorkshire - 17/03/2006 03:55

Why do you say steer clear of Turin. I've had a little bit of work done with them. Seemed OK??

Re: West Yorkshire - 17/03/2006 20:49

Here we go again - if only the old forum hadn't died.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: West Yorkshire - 17/03/2006 21:36

Indeed. Some folks have had fine service from Turin, others (and these outweigh the happy crowd) have a much worse service.

The first thing you'll notice is that they're very, very expensive and the second thing is that they're not that good. Jobs missed, jobs done badly, brand new K&N filters removed despite instructions to the contrary... I had an oil leak that I asked them to look at twice, eventually they got bored and said I should take it somewhere else. To a specialists perhaps.

Others have had far more serious problems including damage to cars and broken parts. My local garage proved much better at coop servicing than them and mine was the first coop they had seen
Posted By: phil_20VT

Re: West Yorkshire - 18/03/2006 01:17

Probably best you start a new thread on Turin. You will get lots of responce im sure!
Back to topic, anyone seen me?!?!?
I always keep an eye out on here for being spotted.

Autosonic don't exist thankgod!! I've been using Simon Green's in Horsforth, a bit pricey but seem to know what they are doing have seen a few coops there and they had a Ferrari in for a service when I picked mine up.. Good garages in Leeds a few and far between, I tried to book my coop in at Claytons in Stanningley but they don't service coops after a nightmare they had with one previously?? So when's Powerfiat Leeds opening up???

Re: West Yorkshire - 20/03/2006 22:40

Autosonic do exist, they're just off the Old Ball roundabout. My car was in there in the summer, I'll check when I drive past them tonight...

I assume Tracy at Claytons was taking the piss! Just coz it took them 2 days to do my clutch and then the slave exploded just as they were bleeding it. Women

Phil whereabouts are you, I've seen scotts greens in Stanningley and Crossgates

Red V-reg on the A1 just south of A64 junction, heading north about 1.15pm today.

Re: West Yorkshire - 22/03/2006 23:11

Well Autosonic were open for business when I drove past them this morning. Why do you say they're cowboys? They did a decent job on my car and I'm planning to go back for another repair.

Back on topic, W reg Ink Black Plus on the ring road just past the A660 roundabout this morning. Looked a lot cleaner than mine does.

Off topic again, Roly what was the number of that wheel refurb place in Wetherby? I lost the number with the old forum and mine are looking very sorry for themselves

Re: West Yorkshire - 22/03/2006 23:26

Now you're asking.

Will dig around and see if I've still got the card but his name was Marcus and he's round the back of Car Services in Wetherby. Google it and it should bring some joy.

Did a top job on my old one and I'll be using him again...

Autosonic definately no longer exist in Horsforth anyhow apparently they work from a farm near Bramley.. As for being cowboys, they bodged the fitting of a suspension kit which ended up costing me a fortune to put right, yes they knew how to spray cars but anything mechanical well...

Re: West Yorkshire - 31/03/2006 22:24

It seems you're right about Autosonic, their numbers no longer work and someone else is in their old workshop, they just haven't taken down all the signs yet.

Back to coupe spotting, R plate scotts green in Leeds Light last night. As usual in the light the upside floor numbering system caught me out and I was a little surprised to see my car in a new spot and also that it now appeared to be green...

I was heading into Leeds on Burley Rd near West Park.

Portofino blue was bemused lady who blushed when I flashed her.

Sprint Blue looked great - waved and flashed back. What a great way to start the day!

Yes, fitted in in no time, although had a scary moment when I loosened the engine mount bolt as the engine moved forward and i could not get the bolt back in for a few mins!!!

I can tell the difference as well, the car does not weight up on one side when going into a corner now - excellent!!

120-180k, but we can't find what we want in the part of Ackworth we really like for that money, so we're also looking in:

Darrington, Wentbridge, Kirk Smeaton, Norton and Campsall.

BUT.... we've got to sell ours first

Re: West Yorkshire - 15/06/2006 17:32

Not exactly coop spotting but we've had discussions before about Leeds servicing. Decided I couldn't fit in a trip to Brum to visit Iceberg for the 108K service so based on a recommendation here went to Simon Green's in Horsforth.

Was quite pricey for a major service (290 quid) but those boys are thorough and know what they're doing (looks they have a lot of performance cars in). Gave me a full run through of what they'd done and what was good/bad, they even do a kind of semi-waxoyling treatment underneath.

So, a little expensive, but very thorough and professional and I didn't have to travel to Brum. Don't know how they are on cambelt type jobs, but seem to know their stuff.

Next up give it a good clean and polish, condition the leather and put the little chap up for sale. That will be a sad day
Posted By: growlingbear

Re: West Yorkshire - 16/06/2006 03:30

I need my cam belt done soon. And I think I'm going to get it done with Wigan Paul. His website quotes just under £500.

Re: West Yorkshire - 16/06/2006 22:51

Just had a full service and MOT done at Bows Garage in Sheffield (recommended in the forum - 10/10). Cost £250 all in including new front pads and bulbs. They were unable to do break fluid as they had much difficulty removing old pads . Not sure if niggling probs sorted like front wipers. Thought they were trustworthy but not sure on capability with major technical issues.
Supplied my own oil - Mobil 1 at Costco at £23.00 incl vat
Impressed with Fiat Keighley - I damaged f/n/s wheel arch liner and gasket and they've been able to source parts within 48hrs. They claimed they had no prob getting spares for coop but Alt Autos likely to be cheaper.

Anyway double spot today - silver coop stuck in traffic on M62 east bound near Hartshead Moor this morning. Then followed a clean R plate maroon 20VT out of Bradford to Lower Baildon this afternoon.

Re: West Yorkshire - 24/07/2008 22:41

If the silver coop on M62 at Hartshead was actually moon grey then that could have been me on my to AA for some wishbones.

Electric Blue 20v on a W plate. Spotted going through Cross green area about 18:00 wednesday 20/8.

I didn't wave I was in a Volvo you would think me nuts.

I must add you need to get the back box sorted or your bumper will melt mate.

Re: West Yorkshire - 21/08/2008 21:05

Mr Leeds, was me - I thought the exhaust sounded a bit woffly but never noticed til I saw your post - doh!

the whole end bit including heatshield has come off a few inches in front of the bumper, gotta drive to Manc tomorrow - [numpty question coming up] reckon it'd survive til I can get it fixed as it's not actually near to touching the bumper?

Cheers!

That would have been me in the Maroon 20VT heading to Baildon, it's in the body shop at the moment after someone did a hit and run on it whilst parked in Bradford. Finished work to find my rear wing had been pushed in and blue paint in place of the maroon. Not happy \:mad\:

I frequently see a red 20v with an old chap driving. Has a spoiler on it, have waved at him a couple of times and he just ignores me, miserable old trout. Think he drinks in the Beulah pub on Tong road

Anyway speaking of red Coupes, very nicely modded R*** RFT, seen in Bradford this morning, came past me on Sticker Lane and I caught back up on Rooley Lane before M606, exchanged beeps, waves, and knowing smiles! \:D

Hi Phil!

I've seen them once down there before, but it was just the one bloke, he just seemed to be grilling people and was just waving people past by the time I got to him, because of the amount of traffic coming through, despite it being access only. I suppose the other option would be to hang a left and spin round to go back on myself. Is that what you do?

Went to see a quick green coupe yesterday in Leeds! Anyway, spotted a Banana coop (again) on the way back, this time it was heading in the same direction (towards Leeds) but a junction earlier than the one I saw the last time I was viewing a coop in the same area (a month ago or so). Managed to get a better look at it this time as I was in the outside lane for a moment (a miracle really, I was in a Hyundai Getz!) and it's a 20VT, late model (or look-a-like of course) with colour keyed black bits and HID's.

Anyone?

Most likely me Sy, did it have HID's and big wheels? There's a miserable old giffer in a Red bodykitted coop around there some mornings, he never looks or even acknowledges you, so if I spot a red coop around there I generally just glance but don't flash/wave etc. I'll start doing it again. So sadly, once I get organised it will be back up for sale at a lower price. Did your mate find a black one?

Yep. That was me on my way to work.

I Drive on Toller Lane most days dodging appalling driving by locals in Audis, Golfs, Audis, Golfs, Audis... and suddenly there was an ink black coop coming towards me. Cheered me up no end! Good to see you.

In fact, yours is the first 20vt I've seen since getting mine in September!
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: West Yorkshire - 10/01/2015 15:20

I was also shocked!!

I do the Toller dodgems everyday, Oakworth to BD1, surprised I've not spoken you before!

You're the first I've seen moving for ages, I've had mine 5.5 years and see maybe 1 other a year!

Re: West Yorkshire - 27/05/2015 19:53

Apologies in advance for posting off topic, but figured anyone posting here will be able to help me.

Just moved into the huddersfield area and am wondering whether anyone can recommend local garages. Alfatech in Huddersfield seems to get some reasonable reviews on the alfa forums and, when I spoke to them, seemed to be happy working on a coupe. Turin motors in Leeds seems to have mixed reviews.

I need the auxiliary belts replaced (one is perished and it will be just my luck for it to go and take out the cambelt)

all the best richard

Motormech too far/risky?

Re: West Yorkshire - 27/05/2015 21:14

hi, it's richard with the porto n/a and the small kids....sorry i didn't get to the scottish italian car meet at the w/e..sounds like it was better than last year.

The car is in cumbria at the moment (tucked up in the garage as it isn't a daily drive at the moment) but I am working down in west yorkshire in the week and moving down for good in the summer.

I got it serviced at motormech in the autumn and they flagged the aux belt. Happy to go back there (or to Midland Car Services which is even closer) for bigger jobs, but both involve taking a day off.

If there was somewhere local that was ok, I can bring it on my weekly commute down (avoiding the temptation to take the fantastic empty A/B road route down through the Penines that really deserves to be taken with some energy) and start to build a relationship with somewhere local if pos for smaller jobs.

Re: West Yorkshire - 27/05/2015 23:17

Yes Rich I recognised you, hope you and family are all well and looking forward to the move smile

With luck one of the Yorkshire locals will come up with a trusty garage - thing is, the speed with which MCS or MotorMech do the job (therefore saving labour), would that save you in the long run?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: West Yorkshire - 28/05/2015 11:55

Hi, and welcome to God's Own County Richard!

Turin Motors both I and my friend (GTV) have used previously for smaller jobs, but I will always take the day off to go down to JBT @ Midlands for anything bigger than swapping some parts!

Honestly, when I went to get my belts changed, it was faster in total to drive down to JBT, get him to replace them and driving back up than it would have been to just have someone fiddling about without any knowledge!

If you ever see a Porto N/A with a sad looking scrape down passenger side rear wing, that's me. great' hit and run in the night - don't park yours on a street if you are ever in Leeds! frown

Re: West Yorkshire - 28/05/2015 20:50

ta...i've got a porto n/a as well, but will avoid parking too close to you at a meet in case the scrape is catching....though my newish alfa has a dented wing from a hit and run

Re: West Yorkshire - 17/09/2018 13:06

That's quite an old photo, I've had a black roof for the last two seasons! The 205s are very rapid at Harewood, light weight definitely pays off - for the first time a car in the class I'm in (over 2ltr 2wd) was quicker than a car in the 1.4 to 2ltr class.
I got a new PB yesterday of 67.99 which I was delighted with, the 68.28 was the previous event.
Posted By: iainb

Re: West Yorkshire - 17/09/2018 16:19

I assumed he took that photo yesterday but he obvs just grabbed it from the web!

Yes the 205s are rapid, I used to have one with a 2.1 16v on throttle bodies and it went quite well. I was actually looking for a 205 GTi project when the Coupe came up.

Very cool re. PB and more to come no doubt.

Would like to know a bit more about your spec as currently restoring a 20VT and want to use it for tracks days and the odd hill climb. What suspension do you run and do you have any special mods to adjust camber and caster?
Posted By: andyps

Re: West Yorkshire - 17/09/2018 19:53

Suspension wise I've got Bilstein B6 shocks and Eibach springs with the Eibach anti-roll bars on both ends. EIbach camber adjustment bolts set to give the maximum negative camber possible, nothing at the moment to adjust castor. It's a pretty good set up although when budget allows I would quite like the BC Coilovers as they are probably a step better. Engine wise it has a 55 trim turbo with remap from FC Performance giving 275hp and 268lb/ft.

I put pictures of the effect of suspension changes in this post - https://www.fiatcoupe.net/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1599720#Post1599720

Andyps....... just to follow on from your point about bolts. I’ve just added KW coil overs to my coupe is there anything I can do to adjust rear wheels there angled slightly further out at Bottom. Thanks

As far as I know there is no adjustment on the rear arms so changing the suspension shouldn't have made any difference to it. The fronts can be changed using camber adjustment bolts but the rear would need different mounting brackets for the suspension arms to alter the camber or castor - I think they are available but don't have any experience of them.

Re: West Yorkshire - 02/12/2019 13:56

Ok thanks Andy, I have had subframes changed and polybushed with new KW coil overs they just appear to be angled slightly on rear. (Not massively).I’ll get a wheel alignment done and set height to what I think is ok and take it from there, thanks
