Coupe spotting area

Re: Australasia - 24/12/2005 12:25

Spotted a red coupe last Sunday (18th Dec) New Zealand Between Alexandra & Cromwell in the Gorge. Gee, not many coupes down this way, first one I've seen acually, love to know if its local or just passing through. They looked surprised to see me also. Really acknowledged me also.

Re: Australasia - 09/01/2006 05:03

Saw a bluey in Wellington, NZ last March.

Was the only one I saw in 10 weeks in Oz and NZ!
Posted By: Possum

Re: Australasia - 09/01/2006 09:11

The reason that you probably didn't see any Coupes in Australia is that there is only about 15 in the country with most being in Sydney and Melbourne.

I am only aware of a 20vt in Brisbane and a 2OvNA in Noosa apart from my 16vt as the only Coupes in Queensland.

On the weekend of 21-22 January, one would expect to see about 5 Coupes in Bathurst at the Annual social/competition weekend of the combined Fiat Car Clubs in Australia. Part of the Mt Panorama circuit will be used for the hillclimb.

Re: Australasia - 21/01/2007 15:09

I have what I believe to be the only Coupe in Tasmania, though a friend of mine (in the local Italian car club) claims there's one in Devonport, just up the road.

As far as I know mine's one of only two Pluses in the country, the other one being owned by Tony, the only guy in Oz to be able to comply the Coupe. He also imported another 3 I think, and there are a few personal imports in Melbourne.

I know of a bloke in Melbourne (Damon Earwaker) who has two Coupes, one he races and the other for a drive car.
Posted By: Possum

Re: Australasia - 22/01/2007 03:57

The Coupe that Damon races is a Broom Yellow 20vt in left hand drive that was imported "illegally" into Australia as parts from Japan and put back together on the Sunshine Coast here in Queensland. When I last saw it it was still in bits and had a bit of minor body damage. As it has no paperwork it could never be registerd for road use in Australia. It may have been at Bathurst last weekend for the annual Fiat competition, but, as yet, I have not spoken to anyone who was there.

There is a Portfino Blue 20vt in Brisbane and a Silver 20v na at Noosa and a few others in Sydney.

I'm the President of Fiat Car Club of Queensland.

Re: Australasia - 22/01/2007 18:12

Im just applying for my visa for oz , should be through next couple of months and im having to let my beloveded 20vt go as its just not cost effective to import her , so if any of you lot see somebody licking the window of your coupe of chasing you down the road on foot please be kind as its probably me having cold turkey. noooooooooo my coupe!!

im sulking already.... what kinda price are they selling at out there if anybody is actually willing to part with one?
Posted By: Possum

Re: Australasia - 23/01/2007 09:31

I have seen a late model 20vt (very low mileage) advertised around A$39,000 with others in the mid 30's. Have also seen a 16v na (Which I know had rust in a front suspension tower) for around A$15,000. They do not come up for sale very often.

If you have owned your Coupe for more than 12 months, I would seriously consider bringing it with you.

Where abouts in Australia do you hope to settle?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Australasia - 23/01/2007 14:16

I have 2 job offers which are in different parts of the country, but im hoping to be heading for brisbane, i have had the coupe for 2 years although i know its mechanically sound the mileage is at just over 100k and the cost to import isnt really cost effective, so i think ill have to visit your club and stare in ore at your members motors!

Re: Australasia - 25/01/2007 07:52

You are always welcome for a visit and, to cure your withdrawal symptons, we could always arrange a drive.

Let me know when you are arriving so that we can get together.

A bit warm at present with temperatures in the low 30's and some rain hanging about which we desperately need as the dam levels are down to around 20% capacity and we have water restrictions. But then, Australia is the driest continent on earth.

Re: Australasia - 27/12/2007 13:07

I spent the last 3 months travelling around Australia and I didn't see one coop. Not surprising by the numbers quoted in the previous posts, however, I did see and Austin Healey Sprite or, Frogeye as it is more commonly known in the UK. I wonder which is rarer in Australia?
Posted By: Boosted7

Re: Australasia - 27/12/2007 15:19

The coop is much rarer in Aus. There are still quite a few old Frogeyes knocking about - I used to live near a bloke who owned a racing green one in Canberra. Fiat withdrew from the Australian market back in the 80s and have only just made a come-back in the last year or so with the Punto, so any coop in Australia is an import, and I've heard there are only about a dozen or so in the country. My mates back home have no idea what this strange Fiat coop thing is that I've gone and bought.. \:D
Posted By: bikenut55

Re: Australasia - 16/01/2008 00:33

I didnt realise that every coop in Aus was an import. Not really surprising that I didnt spot one at all then. You'll have to educate your mates back at home about the strange Italian car \:D

I recently moved to Port Melbourne and have noticed (a few times) a blue/grey 20V driving and parked in various streets.

Anyone here?

Spotted a Broom Yellow Coupe outside the Te Papa Museum in Wellington, NZ yesterday.

I'm coupe-less in Christchurch for Chrimbo. \:s If anyone spots a black 328 E36 Alpina or a white Toyota Highlander waving frantically at them, it's moi!

Re: Australasia - 05/01/2009 04:46

Spotted a really stunning Electric Blue (Plus?) in Shirley, Christchurch.

Re: Australasia - 12/01/2009 06:49

What model? There are not many 20VTs in NZ
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Australasia - 13/01/2009 22:49

Could've been a 20VT rather than a Plus ... spotted another one this afternoon but in Blitz Blue \:D {should really mention it was a post-Emirates experience}. There's also a few on Trade Me at the mo going for top money.

Check this out for a bad joke. Thats what it costs to get a Coupe in Australia
Posted By: Possum

Re: Australasia - 30/01/2009 04:52

I would want more than that for mine!

Is it an 16v NA as no mention of a turbo is mentioned and I can't convert kw to hp. I'm from the old school and talk in real power.
Posted By: Scuderia

Re: Australasia - 30/01/2009 09:39

That's nuts. Its a 1996 with 200K on the clock! I still cant get to grips with the Aussi car market. Way too over protected.

Oh it's a 16VT
Posted By: Possum

Re: Australasia - 06/02/2009 04:49

Another Coupe has arrived in Brisbane!!!

A Yellow 20VT has just arrived from New Zealand. It's owner has crossed "The Ditch" and brought his Coupe with him and last night joined the Fiat Car Club of Queensland Inc.

We now have 3 Coupes, my 16vt, a silver 20v and now the yellow 20vt.

Guess I don't own the most powerful production Fiat in the Club anymore.

Yeah, thats not going to happen so I have found out. It's virtually impossible to get it registered if its not a personal import.

Re: Australasia - 06/12/2010 04:30

Well, I just brought what I think is the 20th Coupé into Oz from the UK and very happy to have it here. Any time I get homesick, I just sit in her, close my eyes, and I could be right back on the M25 again!

A big thank you also to Graeme at FCCQ for helping me out with so many things over here, I'm looking forward to joining the club and enjoying my Coupé for another 10 years or more .... she certainly doesn't miss the snow and ice; no more frozen handbrake, no more pooring hot water on the doorlocks, and no more snow falling into the car when I open the door, bonnet, boot etc. ... The only downside is that I might get a slightly more dangerous variety of spider living in the wing mirror now ;o)
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Australasia - 22/12/2010 11:22

What model is that Robski?
Any photos?
I have a bit of a register going and currently have 19 confirmed Oz Coupes, but there may be one or two more. If yours is recently imported it would indeed be the 20th known car.

If all things run to plan I'll have another one here soon too. smile

The photo was taken at Wakefield Park, Goulburn, New South Wales, 2 weeks ago.

The car is a recent arrival in Australia.
Posted By: Boosted7

Re: Australasia - 08/04/2011 09:47

Graeme, do you happen to know if it has been registered for road use, or is it purely a track car?
Posted By: Scuderia

Re: Australasia - 08/04/2011 14:56

Are you sure you have the right car? Marc has had this for years.

It's not registered.
Posted By: Possum

Re: Australasia - 11/04/2011 05:25

Yes, I knew it was Marc's car, but I was told that it is one that he had just bought in as, you know, he brings in all sorts of auto bits etc, including some interesting cars, over the years.

Antony, I assume it is only for track use as the plates are not NSW.

Re: Australasia - 12/04/2011 15:28

Wow, he sold it already!

Re: Australasia - 01/08/2011 07:33

It's a 20VT Wazza (sorry for delay in replying).

I'm about to embark on a complete respray (she's a lovely salmon pink currently and the lacquer coat flaking nicely). Getting her back to proper Rosso Red will be awesome, and a layer of UV topcoat should keep that Aussie sun at bay for a while. Had the piston heads done in the UK (including 2 broken pistons replaced!) so engine sounding sweet now.

Might have to start scouring those UK scrap yards and get a line of spares stacked up in the garage over here though!

I sure it is! Making the 24000 miles round trip for a meet is a bit steep though. Unless I can find someone halfway to do a cambelt change chinny

Not mine as I will be recovering from surgery and don't think I will be up for the 3,500 km round trip.

However, I would expect to see a few from Sydney heading south.

If all goes to plan, Queensland could be hosting the 2013 event so all the "Mexicans" will come north to God's country.

In NZ taupo might be the most lightly place to spot a coupe I have two mates and between them the own 7 although only 2 are road registered at this time I managed to prise the parts car off them so I have one and all things going ok should be road leagle in the new year and there is another ink black that they sold to another mate.

Hi Gerry. I came across a coupe 16vt red in a driveway while i was at the rugby world cup in 2011 somewhere below Taupo.

We stopped and knocked on his door, nice old fella with loads of alfa's etc. He said his mate down the road had a track coupe.
