Odd Idle Running When Hot

Odd Idle Running When Hot - 20/06/2018 10:26

My 20VT has this odd and annoying running at idle issue. When engine is warm and hot an at idle, its creeps up to 1200rpm, some times when I blip the throttle is retracts to 750 -800 rpm, then goes up again when I get to the next junction etc for example.

What I have done so far :

Checked the Coils = OK
Recent replacement NGK plugs = OK
Replaced the ICV with the Kia 0K9A220660A Bosch equivalent 0280140553 = OK
MAF I think works OK
Throttle Body cleaned last year = OK

When engine is cold the auto choke works fine and settles to 700 - 750rpm.

Anything I am missing or should I check.?

I am having a similar issue although engine temp does not seem to be my issue.
I undid the MAF connection earlier whilst the engine was running at high rpm and the revs settled down to normal, so I am going to replace the MAF tomorrow if I can get a part locally.

Good point on the MAF. Shall disconnect and see if this helps.

Did you manage to fix it? I cured mine by cleaning the throttle position sensor, locatoed just behind the ICV. yipee

Nope. Could you post a picture of the throttle position sensor you cleaned?

In this picture from my 16vna - look to the top right section(insert) - you can see the same Throttle position sensor sitting directly in front of the power steering reservoir (placed behind, what be on your 20vt, the ICV sitting on top)

It has three poles on the connector visible.

Ignore the other three sections as they differ from the 20vt quite a lot

Removed the TPS. One of the 4mm Torx pan head screws was a bugger to safely remove. The flat underside of the TPS was very dirty. The green sealing oil ring is semi hard. The shaft, brass bush and aluminium areas were degreased and cleaned. Other than working or not post clean, i have ordered a new bosch TPS ( Bosch Part Number 0280122001 ) for £27 delivered and some new torx 4mm in stainless steel as the top screw was fairly wasted in the torx slot.

So i will know from Wed next week if this has solved my problem.

The new Bosch TPS resolved my idle problems. Many thanks to X19-Pilot and BBR with your help.
