Coupe software version?

Coupe software version? - 30/06/2018 12:29

A coupe friendly garage quite close to me has the old diagnostics for Fiat's, Lancia's etc but hasn't been used for a while. Apparently it's a pain to scroll through all the versions until finding the correct one that will "talk" to the car. He knows that it will be Magneti Marelli but does anyone know what version it's likely to be? Presumably the version for an N reg 16v wouldn't be the same for a later 20VT?

2.0 16v/t is Marelli P8
2.0 20v/t is Bosch M2.10.4
2.0 20v VIS is Bosch ME3.1

Diagnostic tools generally work by selecting car make/model though, not ECU type.

Thank fully I have managed to connect startrek now but may update Maltieuscan too

The garage can't get the diagnostics to work on M P8 and he knows the kit is working. There are 6 x P8 options and 35 Marelli programmes in total. Due to the age of the car he's assuming it will be Marelli and not Bosch etc. Any leg up would really be appreciated peeps.

Does this help?
[61.600.193.02] Coupe S 2.0 16v (confirmed)
The ECU is the Magneti Marelli P8 by PQP. According to the Fiat documentation, this works with the following vehicles (the square brackets indicate the ECU part number):

Re: Coupe software version? - 03/08/2018 14:05

Thanks BBR. I've been on GB Codes website and for the 16v it has MM IAW P8 and another MM IAW P8 by PQP. Any idea what the difference means and is it significant? Also the latter code has (IM) after the coupe 16v. He should know what he's doing as he services and owns a 20vt but any idiosyncrasies with connecting the diagnostics? He's going through a port in the pax side of the engine bay and connecting to the battery. It fires up but then gets an error code reading message.

The passenger side connector is probably the one for the ABS ECU which may explain why it's not connecting.

The engine ECU connector is at drivers side rear of engine bay but unlike the 20v needs to be unplugged from another connector before the diagnostic kit can be plugged in.

Bingo! Fingers crossed that's the issue. I honestly don't know what I'd do without the forum - cry, turn to drink, by a Nissan leaf...

Sorry G_Man took my eye off the ball at work - glad GrahamL could point you to the correct connector

No need to apologise BBR! Spoke to the mechanic and he reckons that's the problem. Presumably the 20v / 20vt have different diagnostics port locations?

Re: Coupe software version? - 03/08/2018 19:41

The 20v’s do connect in a different place, down in front of the washer and coolant reservoirs.

The 16v’s connector is top left next to the map sensor itself, it needs to be disconnected as is the injector circuit (I think)

Re: Coupe software version? - 05/08/2018 15:55

The same connector for the 16v diagnostics is also used to drive the injector light on the dash - so you break it to talk to the ECU and put it back for the red light to work.

IM after the code stands for 'immobiliser'. There are a dozen different variants of the P8 code - basically different maps for different cars - and many are available in immobiliser and non-immobiliser variants.

What a nightmare - he's used the location photos, plugged in the machine and it's blown his kit shocked So now he's minus his old school diagnostics and doubts he'll be able source another. So back to square one. Need to try and download the software myself or take a trip to MotorMech and work out of my office close by whilst they give it the once over.

Re: Coupe software version? - 23/08/2018 16:05

So the saga continues rolleyes Took it to an alfa / fiat specialists in Manchester who plugged it in but couldn't get a reading. However they reckon it's not a car issue but rather the diagnostics ie although the car's in the system there isn't the software behind it due to it's rarity. But being old school tech and the car's symptoms likely culprits are leads, dizzy cap etc but doubtful about the lambda sensor. Anyway the manager said that in all their years in business it's the first 16v they've had through their doors so took some pics with the intention to post on their facebook page .. cool
