Fuel pump dying?

Fuel pump dying? - 30/06/2019 09:50

Hi,

After a spirited drive in hot weather i heard a whining noise in the boot. Loudest with ignition on. But also there the first minute after i turned the ignition off. My guess is a dying fuel pump. But why would the noise remain after stopping ignition? Open to ideas.

Is the fuel pump still available new?

With the ignition off the pump should also be off so it's possible this is a tank pressure noise you're hearing maybe.

Could be. would that suggest a leak? Perhaps showing itself due to hot weather?

Check the seal ring under the cap, if it's cracked it'll release pressure which might be the noise you're hearing.

Sounds like the noise I reported in my post from a few weeks ago.

I checked everything and the seal as Joe (Countrycruising) suggests.

Have you got much fuel in your tank? I filled my back to the top - and took a spirited 2 hour cruise over weekend - and the fuel pump on mine was silent.

Opening my tank prior produced a satisfying Psshhhh as the vacum released.

Thanks, I will have a look this weekend. Tank is about half full.
