Coolant gauge not working

Coolant gauge not working - 07/07/2019 05:15

Greetings, my coolant gauge is not working anymore-it sits at it's lowest point and doesn't move not even a bit. Which sensor is at fault(heard that there are two) and can I drive the car with it broken,by that I mean will the car turn on the fan or overheat when I get into trafic. Car is 2.0 16v. Thanks in advance

The sensor for the gauge (part 61) is on the low rear of the thermostat; it has a single connector and it's screwed in from the side. The ECU sensor (part 28) is on the top of the thermostat, and has two contacts. It's completely independent of the gauge sensor so unless you have reason to believe that there is a common issue (e.g. complete absence of coolant!) you will be able to drive as normal.

The fans are controlled by a thermo switch on the side of the radiator, so they work purely on coolant temperature.

Check the terminal connector on the wire. They have been known to break where the wire is crimped.
