20VT rebuild queries - 28/08/2019 22:39

Hi all

Further to my last query (many thanks Magooagain for answer and apologies to the Club for posting in wrong section previously) I have a few further quick queries:

1. Does anyone know the size of the three bolts that screw into the top of the front strut mounting bracket? One of mine has sheered in two, I am replacing both struts but unfortunately these have not come with new bolts. If, of course, anyone has any knocking about I am happy to pay for them and postage. For the life of me, I cant find them to buy on usual sites.
2. The brake wear sensor lead connector from the car is missing on both sides. The wire appears to be there but having bought nice new EBC pads which I note have a plastic connector but no such connector coming from car side. Again, does anyone have the connector(s) about that I can buy? Alternatively, it appears that there is just one braided cable so assume no reason not to simply remove the plastic connector from the pad side and connect the wires with solder joint or the like - it's just that I would much prefer to keep as standard as possible.
3. As a newbie to the 20VT scene, is there a general opinion as to whether on early models that have black on the sills and bottom of front and rear bumpers, the black should be kept? I have both bumpers off to get repainted and happy to go either way - my instinct is to keep original however I accept it would likely look better fully colour coded (portofino blue). I am looking forward to coming to meets and events once this round of restoration is done, so don't want you experts frowning at my lovely car if I make the wrong call.

I have so many photographs of the build to date so if there is anywhere on site to post them would be more than happy to share and discuss. Have tried to attach one image to this but it is too large to do so.

many thanks for any guidance received
Cheers
Phil.

It's been a long time, but as I recall they're fairly standard cap head M8 bolts, nothing exotic.

Obtain a bolt second hand from a specialist or buy new from FIAT if possible.
While the thread is standard, the grade is 10.9 and the captive washer isn`t easy to replicate. For a temporary measure I used an o-ring to centre the washer on a titanium bolt. I hope to have a new set of 6 in about 4 weeks if still available, you would be welcome to my sole unrusty original when they are in my hand.

Depending on your time frame there is the projects/comments section or coupe related chat for your photos.

NB my qualification for bolt safety advice is - I`m an almost unemployed musician.
However, I never contradict barnacle regarding electrics.

Yeah, 10.9 is significantly stronger than an 8.8.

The brake wear sensor wires seem to get eaten!
If you want to take the trouble and remake them then that’s a nice “original” job to do,

Would be interesting to know if anyone on the forum actually still has them in place and functioning (I don’t)

Regarding sills, the original Coupe colour scheme was black sills and black lower front/rear bumpers.

With the addition of the sill caps in later LE’s and Pluses these were body colour coded.

I would recommend keeping it original - but each to their own.

Regards

Sg

My later vt6 is colour coded from new with no body kit and I think it looks better without the black strip.
