Turbo oil outlet pipe removal - 25/06/2018 19:46

I was attempting to swap my old turbo for the reconditioned one I have bought this evening but got stumped by the oil drain tube/pipe which was not included with the reconditioned one and I can't get out of the old one. Any suggestions?
It's the one in the middle of these pictures:

This came up on a recent thread, ISTR than an 11mm allen key will fit tightly inside the pipe and allow you to unscrew it. Failing that you can buy a flanged connection and gasket.

Thanks Dave, I tried various Torx bits but didn't have one that fitted, although I was tempted to hammer a slightly oversize one in and see what happened, but don't want to damage the pipe if I have to reuse it. Any ideas on who sells the flanged connection?

11mm allen/hex key will do it, eg. ebay # 111499282109 or # 111922068964 for a 3/8" or 1/2" drive. The hex part is recessed slightly into the pipe.

I'd use some high temp threadlock when re-fitting, mine was leaking oil through the threads which is why I had to remove it in the first place.

Thanks Graham, found one on Amazon which will be with me on Wednesday if other tactics don't work tomorrow evening!

Thanks ePiFaNT - not sure if mine is rounded off or just that I didn't have the right size tool. Will find out soon hopefully.

Thanks for the help, got the 11mm hex socket today and the pipe came out easily.

I've just had my turbo back from a rebuild at Midland Turbo. They have removed the oil outlet pipe so I need to re-fit it. Any idea what high temp threadlock I could use?
I imagine that the turbo body gets pretty hot.

Think it was Loctite 272 I used, high strength and good for 200 degrees, most of the others are only OK to 150 degrees. It stopped the leak and has been fine since and that was 5 years ago.

Thread lock products aren't needed for this as it's not under pressure so seal with some PTFE tape, it's 0.49p a roll and will happily take the heat.

Hahaha perfect!
I was actually about to ask if PTFE tape would do the trick!
I see that it can operate at temperatures up to 260 deg C.
Loctite 272 is mega bucks!
Thanks all, I just need to find an 11mm allen key.
