Non standard colours - 16/12/2012 21:09

At some point in the next year or so i plan to treat the coupe to a respray (when funds allow) and as i enjoy being a bit different i'm interested to see what non standard colours people have tried. There are a few shades that have taken my fancy on Kayjay's 'paint my coupe' app but i fancy something a bit special, maybe a pearl or candy. Has anyone got any pics non standard colours on a coupe?

Orange cool

Flat paint, not metallic, looks the best in my opinion.

A big fan of the blue above. I would like to see a matt black coupe as well with gloss black wheels

If you are planning to treat the coupe to a re-spray (when funds allow) the i would consider colour choice very carefully. It sounds like you are not planning a full engine removal and body strip?

Subtle changes of exterior colour are OK, but a radical change looks odd if under bonnet is not the same IMHO. And it would irritate you smile

i always liked mirtrare's canadian coupe in Alfa neuvo blue (if thats how you spell it?)

very similar to porto, but lighter. I think you could get away with re-spraying a porto in that colour without a full body strip, and it would not be that noticable.

I was just going to post the same as bockers.

If the job situation and money permits I would like to treat my coupe to a respray one day also. Mine is Steel Grey and with the above in mind if I was going ‘non-standard’ I was thinking of a slightly darker metallic grey. Maybe something between Steel grey and Vinci. Anything too dark would look very strange against the silver under the bonnet and other places which would not receive fresh paint.

For yours I think something half way between inky and electric blue. One of my old BMWs was ‘mystic blue’ and that was very nice.

There was one a while back, it wasn't as good as you think it would be.

Not fond of the Goldy Volvo look. Orange or white would be good.... Lambo green?

Your right as usual bockers, it would really bug me if the collars didn't match the cuffs so to speak.
One of the colours i was looking at was Mallard Green, used on escort cosworths, it looks like a mix between energy green and ink black but still to far from ink black to get away with. grr looks like i'll be saving for a bit longer...

I had Mallard Green on my Fiesta and yes, you can definately see the green in it.

I was never keen on the colour frown

It may have been, I'm not sure - never sat side by side with one to compare laugh

If you're not having other bits colour coded to match, but still want a colour to look right with ink black, how about a deep purple metallic colour? cool

Always had a hankering to see a Coupe in pea/lime green.

There's a Tuscan that looks mint (scuse pun) in that colour - so I think I'd like it on any car.

Deep purple smokin now there's an idea! I have decided that i will have to wait until i can do it properly, i can't stand the thought of it not matching under the bonnet. I think this one is for the distant future frown

Was that Tourmallard Green ifso i had an escort in it and it looked mainly black except in bright light and certain angles as it was also a peralescent paint, i thought it was lovely but you would not get away with it next to an inky colour i dont think anyway

Re: Non standard colours - 29/12/2012 01:17

Yes, it was Tour Mallard Green.

It was a nice colour, but not really for me, but then I've always preferred non metallic colours anyway.

Re: Non standard colours - 15/01/2013 05:24

Alright James as a fellow ink owner I've also been curious as to what would look good to freshen the look up of an inky car. As I love the midnight blue hue but sometimes I do feel Ink Black can look a bit dull at times especially if it has a gram of dirt on it as you'd well know lol.

So although I love bold colour coupe's one thing I will say is for example if you get one repsrayed in bright tango orange the sprayer has to be sh** hot and do an absolute immaculate job because all the bright non standard one's I've seen all look like they've had a respray they dont look factory at all and a bit pants if I'm honest theres no room for error if you go bold haha laugh

Two dark blue colours that really have caught my eye out on the streets though that I thought would look subtle but really freshen an inky up are ...

Maserati Ocean Blue - I love this it has such depth as you can see they did a limited edition Mito in it too lol

And also Jaguar Spectrum Blue - And I love this XKR Colour I know its more electric blue but its such a stunning colour in person in all light conditions even at night the car appears black but has this vivid metallic highlights standing out love

Anyway theres my vote next time I've got a spare few grand to treat my coupe to a respray it will be appearing in either of these booot e ful shades laugh
