Black plastic bumper trim - 19/04/2018 15:05

On a MK2 golf so very old plastic and have tried all the detailing products out there and some have worked really nicely apart fom the rear bumper just doesn't want to take to anything!

Anything else worth trying.....more like a spray paint or plasti dip......?

Well Maurizio, no doubt there will be others after me telling you about their chosen treatments. I can only recommend autoglym bumper care which has revived countless old cars of mine in the distant past. Even after decades adding a flammable liquid to the green dried up gel after I purchased this stuff to revive it because I'm a tight git/don't want to waste anything. That is of course black plastic.

Sounds about right, my Peugeot is the same. I gave up with trim wax in the end for the same reasons; the rear bumper just wouldn't take it.

I used Hycote bumper black, although I'm sure it was just called black plastic paint when I used it several years back.

Try a heat gun/ hairdryer gently warm it up will bring oils back to surface may only last temporary though.

House hold items such as peanut butter or peanut oil work aswell.

If it’s really faded and has white streaking marks on it. It may be too far gone. You can scotch it up apply plastic adhesion promter and then black texture coat followed by clear texture if you desire a satin look over Matt

Something I read on the internet - try black boot polish, temporary, but cheap and effective

I used Wurth Bumper Dye on my wife’s old mk3 gti and we were very happy with the results. It lasts a lot longer than most other products! A really good scrub and a bit of heat as mentioned above helps before application! smile
