Home wheel refurbishment - 12/08/2008 13:38

I’m going to have a go re-furbishing my wheels this weekend, they’ve got a few scuffs and I’d like to bring them back up to standard but I’m not 100% on how to do it. I’ve looked at the how to section but that is for silver wheels.

So, this is what I plan to do, if I’ve got anything wrong or missed anything out, any advice is appreciated.

1.Clean the area. (I’ve read some people use paint thinners but won’t this damage my wheels?)

2.Mask the tyre and sand back the areas with a 240-ish grit sandpaper

3.Use some spot putty to build up the area

4.Sand back with increasingly fine sand paper until happy with the finish

5.Primer the area (do I need to sand lightly after this with some 600-ish grit paper)

6.Spray 2-3 coats of black paint. (I really need some advice on what paint to use)

7.Spray with a coat(s) of lacquer.

8.Stand back and admire, hopefully.

Cheers

sounds about right, I've done both my sets of wheels, and have been pleased with the results. Just take your time. I used lots of coats of laquer, but I used metallic paint.
