18" Plus Style wheels

18" Plus Style wheels - 16/03/2009 11:43

Hi guys, been a long time since I've posted here, not been driving the coop too much lately.

I'm interested in getting some alloys made to the style of the plus alloys, only in 18" size. - To give the coop a more moderne look. I've found a company that might be willing to do this - Want to charge me £30 just to give me a quote shocked

Does anyone have a link to a decent pic of the plus alloys?

Cheers

You never know, maybe you will pay 30GBP now, and then get an excellent piece of art for Coupe.... laugh

I know if someone had 18" Plus wheels, I would buy them immediately!!! love

i would go straight back to 18" plus wheels

Re: Plus Style wheels - 17/03/2009 12:24

Thanks for the posts guy, and Thanks Nazo for the links I think those pics should be sufficient for now. I think I'll have to get hold of a regular 16" Plus alloy when things get more serious.

I've decided to pay £30 for the quote, and see whats what. I got the feeling that the prices would drop dramatically if there were more people on board... Group buy?? rolleyes

I was given a rough gestimate for a one time deal around £1500-1700. shocked I'm hoping it won't be that much!

It's been a while, but maybe I can brush up my 3D skills and design a 17" / 18" plus wheel...

18" pretty please...

I have looked at so many wheels in 18" range and TBH still love the uniqueness of plus alloys..

I am sure this would turn into a huge GB and that would bring the cost down quite a bit

I am in.. in any case

Re: Plus Style wheels - 20/03/2009 15:16

Hello from France,

I own a 20vt PLus for a while, and I'm looking for 18" wheels to make it more modern. But I don't find anything that fit the car perfectly. Stock wheels in 18 would be perfect !!! Please do it, I am in (and I bet I'm not the only french one...)

Ps: I oftenly look here, but i've just log, specially for this. Tell me if I need to introduce myself in a specific topic
Posted By: Kayjey

Re: Plus Style wheels - 20/03/2009 16:22

I think the question should be: are you prepared to pay between £ 1.500 and £ 2.000 for 18 inch plus-style wheels?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Plus Style wheels - 21/03/2009 00:03

Im sure we can get 30 people for group buy and should then be around £900.

nearly all custom items on the forum are much more cost then of the shelf simply because they have been custom made by forumers or others..
Posted By: Salmaan

Re: Plus Style wheels - 23/03/2009 12:45

If we could get 20-30 sets, then I'm sure the price would drop dramatically.

I'mn still waiting to hear back from the company - Will chase them tomorrow if i haven't heard anything.

Re: Plus Style wheels - 23/03/2009 12:57

Does anyone know what the weight of a standard 16" Plus alloy is?

Reason I ask is that there may be a possibility to reduce weight at the same time (depending on costs)

9kg (about 20lbs).
Seems to be difficult to get 18" lighter (even forged one)

Re: Plus Style wheels - 24/03/2009 12:14

Mine are 19lbs wink

18" plus alloys would look great so long as it was only the spokes they lengthened and not the square centre section.

Re: Plus Style wheels - 13/07/2009 15:25

Hi guys,

Been out the loop on this one for a bit. I've had a response from one supplier who said that if we ordered 10 sets we might get a price about £750 for a set of 18" Plus style wheels.

Still waiting for all confirmations, designs etc.

Any one interested please post below and I'll contact you once i receive all the details (hoping next week)

Re: Plus Style wheels - 13/07/2009 15:32

Just to let you know these will be manufatured in China, and shipped here - so I have to make sure that we don't get stung by customs here, and that they have all the needed saftey marks etc.

All info to follow
Posted By: Kayjey

Re: Plus Style wheels - 14/07/2009 11:25

Safety MARKS is one thing - quality alloy is yet another. You might want to ask what alloy they are using exactly.

I wonder if this would infringe the intellectual property (design right) in the wheel - i.e. be illegal.

only 18's not 17's?

Re: Plus Style wheels - 19/07/2009 19:50

I think that if you choose for 2 size's, you will double the costs of producing them.

Re: Plus Style wheels - 23/07/2009 17:54

is this thread still alive, i'm very keen for some 18" plus wheels.

i'm looking at some bigger wheels to replace my plus wheels but will hold off for a bit if these wheels actually get produced...
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Plus Style wheels - 24/07/2009 19:17

I already have more dutchies interested in this.

Salmaan, any strict plans?
Posted By: Salmaan

Re: Plus Style wheels - 25/07/2009 20:17

Very much still alive. This is the information I have so far:

Safety
Safety certificate: we have passed ISO9001-2000 quality management system, the QS9000 quality system, got the ISO/TS16949 certificate, Japanese VIA certificate and Germany TUV certificate. The products also performance comply with the international standards such as JWL, and TUV and so on

Material
Aluminium GB/T 16474-1996

Prices will be about £700 if we can get enough people involved, and place deposits. I'm concerned about quality, and am actually going to order a set of wheels for my Jaguar first to see how good they are. Once I recieve them I'll post pics etc so everyone can make a decision.

I will also need to source a regular plus alloy to send them, as this will reduce the cost of the moulds, and ensure accuracy with offsets etc.

Any parties interested, please express in this thread. I'll start a new GB thread once I have concrete information and pricing. If we can get over 30 people buying sets the price may drop to £550 - which I think is a bargain. I won't be making a profit through this - just enough to cover my expenses, and I may decide to do this through one of my UK businesses, as there are going to be VAT implications importing from China.

Posting to Europe will not be an issue, so any Dutchies are more than welcome.

Let me know if you have any questions. I would think that we'd be looking at August / September for the first deliveries.

good idea,if this opens to other forums too may get some huge interest and larger discounts.

technicalities need to be sorted first mind

Re: Plus Style wheels - 27/07/2009 14:22

Given the opportunity you may want to consider changing the offset. If you go ET32 say then it is the equivalent of 10mm spacers.
Also you would probably be better off going 7.5" wide on an 18" rim as that is the minimum width required for a 225/35R18 tyre.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Plus Style wheels - 30/07/2009 20:00

I definately want a set as long as below £800 and will supply 1 of my plus wheels to replicate if needed as long as I will definately get it back

Re: Plus Style wheels - 03/08/2009 15:59

Thanks for the offer, I'll probably take you up on the offer - Where abouts are you based, and would it be ok to not have the wheel for at least 1 month, maybe 2?

Thats a good point. Any other suggestions that i should mention to the designers?

Re: Plus Style wheels - 03/08/2009 20:24

Im not sure. I collected one other buyer from the dutch forum. So for now, 2 dutchies are up.

Considering the design i would try to make the specs of the rim as standard as possible. This in the means of not doing anything specific, to keep a wide audience for them. (cant find the exact suitable english words, if not clear ill rephrase)

Re: Plus Style wheels - 09/08/2009 09:16

Hello from France

I think everyone should order 5 wheels. Ok it's expensive, but If you crash one wheel you won't sell the others as spare parts (who would buy 3 wheels ?)...
About design: it should be 7,5" or 8" wide for 215 or 225 tyres.
It would be great to keep original offset (40) as it won't modify the geometry of front track wheel.

cheers

Re: Plus Style wheels - 09/08/2009 16:26

I need new tyres as well before this winter, but i dont feel like this group-buy would be completed within 1-2 months. Ill just buy the wheels and wait until the current tyres are worn. These will be a collectors item!

I would suggest if you widen the wheel you should take half the width off the offset so the wheel centres in the same place. Therefore ET36 or ET35. It's up to you but that is best practice

Really bad example but you get general look, the centre would have to be smaller so the the spokes are made longer for 18"

Re: Plus Style wheels - 18/01/2010 22:03

Hello from Switzerland

i don't know a wheel which does better match than the original one. i have now my 3th coupe and have invested hours/days to find nice wheels. There is no better one, than the original, but not in 16!

It's a pity that this idea to production does not go on.
I AM DEFINITELY IN!
But i'm not capable to realize. If theres is someone who can do that, he will get a fee of 300 EURO from me.
But i want a quality-solution and not to weighty.
So please check my offer till 30.01.2010.

thanks all and sorry for my english...

Best and serious regards from Switzerland

Re: Plus Style wheels - 18/01/2010 23:20

That's a very garbled quote you've managed to get yourself there Simon.

FYI Alloy is currently at market value to cash buyer for $1995/tonne - Mid priced, on the rise (price hike is taking away a lot of our profit!)

Personally not interested in these wheels, but if there is still interest from others I will get our Sales guy at work to source some contacts. (I'm sure he owes me a favour somewhere along the line rolleyes )

He's done a lot of work getting our jobs out to China to save on overheads (Wonder why we made so many redundancies eh?) and we have some good sand and investment casting foundry contacts out there.

KMR - This post is old, and to be honest, I think 10 sets of 18" Plus wheels could be sold through the forum, definately.
If I was you, I would just ask the place you are on about based on 10 sets of Plus style in 18" to see if they can actually do it or not, and if so for how much.
If you have any joy, id start a new thread mate.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Time to take decision!

Let's do it or leave it definitively.

I'm still strong interested but, if this production-project will not go croncretely on to the 15. of February i will look for other wheels.

Kayjey did it with a GTA-Wheel, why is it such difficult for a Plus Wheel...?
