Wanna pop down and do mine, good effort!

Everytime I go to do that, it rains! I have all I need to get going and give the engine bay a really deep clean, it just isn't going to happen at the moment, typical when I have a week off!

I also have a decent size garage, it's just full of my Ibiza Cupra 16v and assorted Coop parts, kids bikes, tool chests, garden furniture, blah blah blah!

My aim is to get it emptied by the Autumn so the work can continue through the winter!

Re: show off your engines please!! - 05/05/2009 21:01

Luckily I can get three cars in mine!!!
Although at the moment it has one coupe, nine bikes and a big pile of junk in there!!

There is also a large pile of coupe engine parts waiting to be cleaned and painted or chromed!!

Re: show off your engines please!! - 05/05/2009 21:07

Lucky chap, I had a 4 car garage when I lived on the Isle of Man, how I miss it, ironically, all I had in it was 1 car and a motorbike!

Still, I am considering a carport to extend mine further! But with the lack of time I seem to have at the moment, I'm sure it will remain a pipe dream for now!

Re: show off your engines please!! - 06/05/2009 14:21

leugim who designed the engine lay out there? if that is a screamer pipe like i think it is the guy needs shooting.
why would you have a screamer pipe inside the engine bay let alone pointing directly 2" away from your intake pipe?
talk about high intake temps lol
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: show off your engines please!! - 06/05/2009 14:24

maybe its me or is that a screamer pipe or maybe a outlet pipe from the air con?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: show off your engines please!! - 06/05/2009 15:15

ok i have kinda gathered its not a screamer pipe now due to the little hose going into it. but what is it?

Re: show off your engines please!! - 06/05/2009 19:10

Its the water rail, they had to manufacture a custom one to get clearance for the exhaust manifold...

I know, want to move battery also for better weight destribution (plastic bonnet will also help) smile.

I already have fiat tipo washer tank, it fits passanger (my drivers side) wing perfectly. space left afer battery will be used for catcher and... pipings for this small whizzling thing with belt and two rotors... Well, you know )))

Change of coupe and change of plan!!!
So far just cleaned it really like I did with the other but this one was even dirtier, it's also had a nice clean expansion bottle thanks to Joe!!!!
The rocker and coil pack cover have been done in grey primer and look cack really, the turbo heatshield is the worst I've seen!!
Generally it's grimy, dirty and rusty under the bonnet but at least I have something to concentrate on that won't cost an arm and a leg to do before I tackle the outside next year!!
So here's a pic of how it looks now!

probably a naive question for this thread, but can anyone point me in the direction of a "step by step guide on what you have to do to remove the rocker cover". Can't find one for looking under tech section.

Its in the How-To guide's section.

'Changing rocker cover gasket 20v'

How To Guides -> Index of How to Guides -> (Scroll down to the 'Easy' list of jobs).

Re: show off your engines please!! - 07/01/2010 09:15

R1DAN - Quick tip...

I also used high temp paint for mine, but I found it was a dull finish and it marked quite easily.

So, while in situ on the engine, I masked it off, easy to do while on the engine, only takes 5 mins, and sprayed it with automotive lacquer. The end result was much better and a deeper colour (I did mine in red) - It also is now much easier to clean.

While doing this I also left the coil pack cover on and re-lacquered that!

Easy peasy mate thumb

Re: show off your engines please!! - 07/01/2010 12:24

Nice one patch will give that a go when it warms up a bit.

It does mark up very easily, get oil on it and its a nightmare to remove!

I'm just looking again at the shot of your engine at Bristol - where did you get your battery?? Patch234 was just saying the other day I should get hold of a white battery! cool

Re: show off your engines please!! - 08/06/2010 09:10

My battery came from my local motor factors, a small independant place in Dorset, maybe Google varta batteries for a local supplier. I used rice and kettle descaler to clean my exp. tank, after seeing Patch's at Bristol.

Thanks scal_LE33 and skinflint!!

I bought the heat sheild off a forum member called westcoupe, and he bought the heat sheild new then had it polished! But i don't know where he had it done?

The guy who done my rocker cover and strutbrace did a really good job with them,so i might take my old heatsheild to him and see if he can bring that up nice and shiny!! Then i will put it up for sale!

Skinflint yes that was me mate at brooklands!!

Next time i am at a show you guys should come and have a proper look and say hello!!

The horn bracket on mine was really rusty, so I attacked it with a wire brush attachment in my electric drill for starters, then left it fully sumerged in 'rusteater' for 24 hours, before brushing again, then painting with several coats of Hammerite smooth black. The horns are a cheat. Pair of red top snail horns from eBay for less than a tenner. Job done! smile

Re: show off your engines please!! - 03/02/2014 22:18

Does the laquer not bubble once it's gotten hot? I did a rocker cover a few years ago and it looked great until I fitted it and warmed up the engine. Then loads of little bubbles appeared in the laquer.

Re: show off your engines please!! - 03/02/2014 22:21

It shouldn't if you use VHT lacquer!

Joe, this rocker was sprayed with Halfords Lacquer over VHT, as I have with a few others. No issues with bubbling at all.

you need to give it a dusting of etch primer and use a vht paint otherwise it will bubble .

Theres a couple of runs in it but overall I'm happy with the weight saving over the stock cover. I think it adds that certain something..... smile smile

Re: show off your engines please!! - 13/04/2014 22:14

Eventually... i've had a vapour blasted plenum, inlet and fuel rail waiting to be polished for over a year now. Hopefully i'll get around to it before the end of the year!
