Supersprint exhaust system

Supersprint exhaust system - 11/01/2006 23:32

I know there's a separate exhaust thread going on but I'd like some specific info on this one, as it's one of the only ones I can actually get out here. What are they like, what are the options, is it a full monty system or just cat back, are they noisy / boomy, what do they look like ?

Cheers

I have the super srint rear box. As quiet as the Fiat one but double the cost and does not last. It is not stainless steel. Better to invest similar money on a stainless one IMHO.

Don't be too hasty! I agree that the mild steel is not ideal, but you can get a decat pipe and mid-section without silencer to go with the back-box already mentioned. It gives a nice burble with the cat-back only fitted, and I have recently added a race cat for an even more fruity noise . I would imagine that a decat would be even better.

These are actually very well designed exhaust systems that suit the Coupe well. If only they were available in stainless .... but then apparently the Milltek system is effectively that . Not sure if they sell them in Dubai, but you might be able to get one shipped out there.

Hanny told me recently that the Milltek system was developed for his old car. You can get a sports cat and cat-back system in stainless that pretty much matches the Supersprint design. As I already have the Supersprint, he recommended that I keep it until it rots, and then replace it with the Milltek once and for all.

The main problem with the Milltek system is the cost. I think the sports cat is about £375 , and the rest of the system is about the same IIRC. Luckily I picked the sports cat up second-hand, so I dodn't have to pay that !

Yep very much so, the sea air and heat mean it's a pretty aggressive environment. However, if the only thing I have to worry about is an exhaust rusting, that will be the least of my Coupe ownership worries

Hmm, might just get the cat refitted for "MOT" time, or at least our equivalant.

I have a Supersprint catback system and the sound is just perfect. Wasn't that worried about it not being stainless, reckon it would last long enough since the car doesn't see the road during "road-salting" season. Looks nice as well.

Re: Supersprint exhaust system - 12/01/2006 02:45

I have a supersprint backbox on my current coop, my old one was standard and there is a definate difference in the sound, deeper.
I have also had a de-cat pipe made up, cost £30 fitted, and this coupled with the supersprint makes a lovely noise especially on boost.
Think the rear box is about 4 years old now, have all the old receipts, and is showing signs of rust underneath so might have to change it this year.
When it does I will be replacing it with a stainless system from the turbo back, 3" Longlife or maybe Blueflame with provision for a cat.

Here's a pic of my Supersprint backbox after 25 months on the car (in rainy Scotland). It was removed as the centre pipe had rusted right through and split into 2 parts - the backbox only shows a little rust and should be good for another 2 years or so.

I replaced the Supersprint with a Cybox stainless cat-back sytem which is a bit louder but will last indefinitely.

I bought Paul's Back box for my coop - it's still fine after 35 month now. The midsection can be bought for about £100 quid if you need to replce it. I also got a second hand Decat pipe and the sounds is awesome (I've overtaken friends and they've said the car sounds like a bike on full chat)- much deeper than any of the stainless exhausts I've heard. back box sounds nice and unobtrusive, and with the decat just more of the same.

I'm very happy with it for what I paid!

Re: Supersprint exhaust system - 23/01/2006 15:30

Supersprint is/are a good system, it was the first aftermarket system for the Coupe if I remember correctly. Only weak spot is the mild steel centre section part.

The Miltek was first designed for the 16vt, all I did was to take up a 20vt and work out a newer system that would fit directly on with option of sports hi flow cat.

Taz then stepped in and helped with the final fitement stage - the best man for the job as he has a very keen eye for detail.

I have run the standard, Supersprint back box, Miltek back box + race cat + Hayward Scott down pipe (all 2.5") and one of Barbz's full 3" systems turbo to tail.

The Supersprint was a second hand buy to replace the faulting OE tail pipe section and found it to be a lot better over standard.

If I had my time again I would do the following:

1) Ball out performance 300bhp + = Barbz's system + decat.
2) Good allround up to 300bhp = Miltek + racecat.
3) Standard/slight mods, on a budget = Supersprint/Blue Flame.

Re: Supersprint exhaust system - 23/01/2006 15:36

Excellent post Hanny, on the basis that I'll probably call it a day at 300 bhp, plus the fact that I can get a Milltek exhaust here, that's pretty much made my mind up But don't they do a full 3" system ?

Re: Supersprint exhaust system - 23/01/2006 17:21

No Miltek dont do a 3" system, when I went into the design with Miltek we look at all the bits and if your runing a standard downpipe there was no real gain in putting a 3" system on except for noise.

The Miltek was fine and well with in its limits for most tuning. If I had my time again and had the same set up I would still be going for the Miltek, its not cheap but I dont mind paying for excellent quality and a full ownership warrenty.

Lots of other exhaust providers have commented on the build quality of the Miltek.

At the end of the day its nothing special but it does what you expect it to do and to date there have been no complaints with it.

Pannik is running my old Miltek and that was the prototype - its still going strong - must be comming up to 4/5 years old now.

My mistake, I thought the Milltek system included the downpipe.

Hanny,Not looking to pick holes in a good informative post, but for any Newbies I`d rate the Blue Flame Sustem much higher than that,Ok we don`t know about it`s longevity yet,(but it is still a Full Stainless Steel Sysytem)......but Value /Fit/Aparant Quality/And Performance gains for a system of it`s price make it a great piece of kit(only my opinion obviously) ........It`s Full 2.75" system all the way back Inc.Downpipe (should be more than enough for most mods)for about £340,I`d certainly give it the performance thumbs up.
Only downside is the drone from 2000-2800rpm (markedly improved by wrapping with Cooltek exhaust bandage ),but most bigger diameter systems suffer from this at some point in the rev range.

Hi Paul, have not listed with view of best/worst etc but more in line with what people want in terms of cost and performance.
