20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 22/11/2014 15:58

I thought it may be interesting for some of you to see what I have done to my 20vt track coupe in order to make it the car it is today.

I am by no means finished with car yet with lots more work & maintenance in the future.

I thought I would start with the current spec,so here goes.

Handling and suspension.

Galvinised and welded front subframe. FCSS.

Sparco top front strut brace.

Engine and gearbox mounts are Vibratech.

Wishbone and drop links are polybushed black series (track) also rear subframe mounts.

Whiteline 22mm rear anti roll bar.

Osrav adjustable suspension along with eibach sport springs.

New oem top mounts.

Brakes are standard with Carbotech xp10 front pads. (this will change to a full calliper upgrade at some point)

Tyres are Toyo 888s

Engine upgrades.

Turbo is a FC Performance Power ultra+.

Stage 3 remap

3inch downpipe (heat wrapped)

3 inch exhaust fitted with sports cat along with mid and rear silencers.

Greddy profec-spec11 boost controller.

Boosts are set by Fc performance low boost is 1.15 bar and high boost is set at 1.35 bar.

Walbro 225 fuel pump along with direct battery feed.

450cc injectors.

Pro alloy FMIC.

Forge 006 dump valve.

Helix organic clutch.

Short shift gear change upgrade.

Battery is fitted into the rear boot space.

A kill switch is installed in the cabin.

TorqueItalia cambelt pully guard.

So that’s about it for the spec although there will be something I have missed.
The interior is stripped out apart from the dash.
Omp roll cage welded in.
Bucket seats along with 4 point harnesses fitted also.

On track the car performs very well although very heavy compaired to all the French lightweight cars around me. If I am on thier rear bumper after a bend then I am past them easy enough on a straight.

I asked Joe at FCSS to help me set up a safe and usable track coupe which can endure heavy track days.
Leighton at FC performance was asked to give me a 300 +hp coupe and set the car within a safe limit due to it being non forged .

I am happy to say both gentlemen have delivered.

Low boost is wonderfull for wet track days with high for those hot summer track days.
The car will spin up coming out of corners in second but its just a matter of reminding mysef its just a track day.

She’s a bit thirsty when given the beans very hard and will drink a tank in about 100 miles on track.

If anyone is thinking about creating a track coupe there is plenty of knowledge here. The more you do yourself the cheaper it will be.

So far I have spent upwards of £7,000 on the project and its money well spent for the fun Gill &I get from the coupe, we are both very proud of it.

I expect to be upgrading a lot more in the next few years and hopefully bring the coupe to a few UK trackdays in the future.

Watch this space!

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 22/11/2014 20:00

Did you have to cut the dash in places to get the cage in? I would really like a cage in mine but don't want to affect the dash so am thinking of a rear only one.

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 22/11/2014 20:23

Have a look at this Andy. http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=132268#Post132268

Not much dash needs to come out really for an OMP roll cage.

A custom built one would be less intrusive i imagine.

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 24/11/2014 12:51

I have looked at that thread before but forgotten about it and hadn't seen your pictures - I know there isn't a lot to cut out but it is a shame to have to cut the dash at all. I guess the solution is to use a second dash and keep on in case of ever returning the car to original spec.

Looks a nice fun track car Joe good job done by fcss and all involved, very clean setup.

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 24/11/2014 21:08

Thanks John. Its not to complicated and easy enough to look after.
I wanted a track car that i can pop on the trailor, have a fun day without to much fuss.

I enjoy the maintenance also and am most happy when under the car checking it over.

Better brakes and a quaife should see me right for a good while i reckon.

It's a bit hard to quantify that, due to no one running the Tarox (I know of one coupe that does, but don't think the owner posts here). Yes, the K-Sports are 8 pistons, but more pistons doesn't necessarily mean better braking. All I know is that they didn't fade on me at Spa and I was braking from 150mph down to 60mph without any issue, apart from the car squirming when heavily braking.

The best buy are the Alfa Romeo 330mm caliper with 305x32 discs.

Gimmo - the best disc for the Alfa 330mm caliper is prob the 330x30mm split disc from Compbrake, its relatively light and relatively "cheap".
As you know I've been looking recently, this is what I've found out.

Was just about to order a pair when the garage had a big fire. So I'm out of the Coupe-world.

I should have explained a bit better. Its Kevin helping me to remove my air con! Not needed on a track car.
All though where we live we do tend to have slightly better weather than the UK!

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 08/12/2014 17:16

Magoo take care about rotarion verse of the alternator.
I think that without air-con it Will work in the contrary. I have to ask to an italian friend that made this work.
You can also change hoses of water making them shorter.
Posted By: magooagain

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 15/12/2014 14:13

Air-con compressor now removed along with a few other bits and pieces.

We managed to shed nearly 13 kilo's.

Big thanks to Kevin-20vt.

A direct intake for air filter!

Great idea!
Did you notice any improvement?
Posted By: magooagain

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 16/12/2014 14:11

The tube enters direct underneath Gimmo. The original hole is still there, just without the trumpet part.

I cant say i notice any improvement to be honest, but its just something i wanted to try. Allthough it may only be temporary.

You may also notice that i know have a complete silicon hose going from the header tank to water rail. wink

Just noticed the hose that's a weird one, any reason why you opted for a single?
Posted By: magooagain

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 16/12/2014 15:05

Just saves having to remove the metal pipe that is joined to the compressor and then join it to the two original hoses.

One piece of pipe is better than 3 i think.

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 16/12/2014 17:31

As you live in a `hot country`, your air intake would be better if sited at number plate height or above, as the air temp. will be higher just above the tarmac.

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 16/12/2014 18:51

oh no, not that car, now I want it all over again...

A high pressure area may improve off-boost performance - once car is doing 70mph and above.
Posted By: magooagain

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 16/12/2014 20:03

My coupe rarely does less than 70mph!
Posted By: Per

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 16/12/2014 21:43

KBT: The Coupes original intake is a high pressure area already, no need to change it.
(In case you haven't noticed, there's no rubber seal along the hood front opening - hence a very large intake area)
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 16/12/2014 22:43

My intake was different when I bought the car. As yet I don`t know what I will use but expect some kind of pressure charged airbox.

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 29/12/2014 13:47

i have the standard airbox with a k&n pannel filter. when im on a trac day i remove the passenger side headlight and it makes a noticeable difference

Re: 20 vt track coupe Magoo's Spec - 14/03/2019 19:12

I thought I would update my coupes progress. Still going strong and I'm still striving to improve the car. It's a testament to how good the coupe engine is really. This car only runs on track so that's mostly flat out in all gears.
It's also a testament to how good the support I have had from many other coupe owners from here and Europe.

My FC performance hybrid turbo and mapping is still as good as the day it was installed.

A few additions to the car have been.

Fibre Bonett
Fibre front wings
Fibre boot lid.

Things about to be installed are.
Alfa 320 calipers and discs at the front, along with 17 inch wheels.

I have removed the airbag system along with the passenger glove box.

Fitted an after market momo steering wheel.

Headlights removed leaving just the plastic covers.

Bit lid springs and hinges are gone along with the lid release mechanism and key/lock.

Various pieces of metal are being removed wherever I can find it.

That's about it at the moment.

There are lots more things I want to do to the car but will have to wait until my new workshop is up and running as I fed up crawling about my gravel drive.

Hope you get some good runs in over the summer.

Hello Frazer. Yes still get a few people coming up to me at the track.
I think it's going to be a summer of working on the car rather than driving it.
Hopefully it will get some sort of action. Maybe a hill climb and a track day local.

Yes Andy it was. I've just found out from my pal. Mine has a rear small spoiler lip on it that was added by my pal Tifn Banzai.

Thanks for the offer, I will do... when the time comes. I'm currently resisting the urge to buy up all the parts for my project now. As tempting as it sounds to have a big heap of bits to work through, I'm several stages away from bodykits at the moment. Car's still over with FCSS having the rebuild and front end restoration. Cage is next along with seats and harnesses etc.
