external wastegate - 27/10/2016 23:31

Hi all this is something I have sent off to have done and im sure it hasnt been done on a fiat coupe yet so new to the Fiat field and maybe usefull to some.

Basically I have a tubular manifold (not ebay/chinese) and becuase it hasnt got an external wastegate take off im going to have one welded into the tial V band housing. Some of you may have seen this done before.
I found it on a youtube channel called Mighty Car Mods (some funny/good info on there) and it works well on the nissan V8 project.

So the plan is to run a Turbo Smart comp wastegate (very compact), it will be positioned at a 45 degree between turbo and block to save space, It will vent back into the exhaust because im not the biggest fan of screamer pipes.

Doing it this way will mean 2 V bands, 3 X juberlee clips and the oil feed line and the turbo can be swapped over (I have push fans so loads of space)

I dont want to mod the manifold I have because its being used between 2 turbos, The GT2871R internal wastegate (for Cadwell Park, brands/short tracks) and a GT3040 (for Spa/ Ring etc)

Any info/pro's and Con's etc is all worth it to advance the coupe into new areas.

Only advice I'd give with external wastegate is get the sizing right. It's better to have a larger diaphragm than a smaller one. Having a smaller one will result is being unable to bleed enough exhaust gas off and not hitting the boost level you want. Also, the placement & angle of the pipe coming off for the external wastegate will also play a part. On mine, it's 90 degrees and I suffer with boost creep, but thankfully, this is only at base boost level and has been mapped around.

If you're going to switch between the 2 turbos, you may want to have 2 different maps too (providing you're going after market ECU).

wastegate angle is downwards 45 degree and which i have been advised by a few that have done this before, size is the comp-gate 40 which again ive been told by them it will handle it easy. As for management the loom has been made im just in talks between the syvecs system which is very good but had a last minute possible change to AEM infinity due to VE based mapping not pulse width without going to much into it.

The set up im running is different to yours mate because your wastegate goes off of the manifold mine is going off of the housing.

my manifld is the same as this
