2.0 16v non turbo peformance pistons/crank?

2.0 16v non turbo peformance pistons/crank? - 29/01/2019 16:20

Greetings, I plan to pour some money into my Coupe.I planned to refresh the engine(around 180k miles but still going strong) in about a month or two,but since I would be taking it apart, I would also like to put higher peformance part in it. Where can I get 84.5 or 85mm pistons and crank that gives higher stroke? I think it would be less complicated and more reliable than going turbo.

Pure Performance Motorsport

They do rods and pistons too. You could buy the 2.2L kit and swap the Integrale pistons for high comps ones.

Thanks for the link, they have pretty good products and I like that you can order exactly what you need and they will make it but shipping half of an engine from AU to EU would be extremely expensive, not mentioning 25% customs tax for things outside of EU. Do you know any similar manufacturers but based in EU?

A long shot but you could try "Walkers garage in North Allerton in North Yorkshire.

info@walkersgarage.com.

They supply pistons and cranks to a French pal that races a 16 vt fiat engined Alfa.

Hopefully they can advise you and get what you want.

for crank with longer stroke, you will also need longer rods and pistons with smaller compression hegiht.

This conversion the becomes toooooo expensive, you will need some extra machining in engine block to get clearance for new crank... still about 5000euro for crank assembly... and for this price there are better ways how to improve engine performance.. unless you dont have plenty money on your account...

by the way, I would only rebore it to 85/86mm to give "2050" or "2100ccm" engine, do some serious headwork, some mild cams, reworked exhaust and you can hit 200bhp with remap... for much less money than cost 2200ccm conversion.. also I would do some engine health supporting mods - 25mm cambelt, and balance shafts delete..

one possible way how to slightly increase stroke (by 1mm) is excentric regring of crank and using 2nd regring rod bearing.. quite popular, cheap mod..

Thanks for the reply, that's something what I was looking for actually. My goal is to reach around 200hp,didn't know that just reboring, head work and similar tasks would give me +50hp.My budget is around 6k euros to bring the car in top shape.

200 HP is easilly achievable with standart displacement.. you can hit even 300+, if you will put some serious money in, but operation range of engine will be 5-10k rpm so wery expensive and short lasting (engine check/critical part replacement in about 20hour of use..), supporting mods will be needed...

If you go for 85 mm bore, and perform headwork+camshafts with properly mapped ecu it should be there...

I have 200HP+ 2l 16V na and it works right now 12 years after engine was built.. still on many standart parts.. Now I would do some things different way, to have more reliability, power and to be cheaper.. smile

Most importiant thing after engine refresh is realibility. Do you remember what mods did you do to achieve 200hp?

here is description of my coupe:

reliability.. most importatnt thing from my point of view:

1) 25mm cambelt + removed balance shafts
2) health oil sprays cooling pistons and pipes at camshafts clamps
3) oil temperature under 100°C - vital to switch 16VT engine mount and oil cooler placed in front of watercooler

next are obvious...
4) balanced internals
5) new bolts around and inside engine - eg. rod bolts (prefferably ARP) if rod remains stock

this would give reliable, strong running 16V even in stock form

my mods were classic - head work, increased compression, exhaust, intake, live map and other minor supporting mods... at the moment I would do some thing different way, but are planned in the future..
