Supercharging

Supercharging - 17/06/2019 06:46

Greetings, does anyone have any expiriences supercharging NA versions of the coupe? I have 16v one and I plan to refresh it in a month or two,but I am also interested in supercharging for a while since it is almost just a bolt on job. What do I need to do get the engine ready for it? I planned to use a simple mechanical roots type, maybe eaton m45 and didn't plan to run too much boost, maybe around 0.4-0.6bars,just to make the car feel more alive. Would a remap and pistons+fuel injectors from 16vt be enough for it to run reliable?

I was going to do this with my 131, a 2l 8V. I've got an M45 from a Mercedes, mounted above the oil filter and below the inlet manifold. I was going to use Croma turbo NOS pistons, H beam rods, a Fiat Tempra inlet manifold with 340cc injectors and a megasquirt ECU. I collected all the bits, fabricated the mounts, built the ECU but never got around to putting it all together.

Nice project, hopefully will be alive one day. Do you think stock 2.0 16v internals can handle 0.4-0.6 bars if I lower the CR,to around 9:1 ?

Conrods would be fine. Just need to lower the compression ratio and add adequately sized injectors. I would offer to dyno map your ECUs for you, but you're both a long way away from the UK!

I can get my hands on 16vt injectors,do you think putting in a thicker HG and doing head work would be enough to lower the CR?
P.S I plan to run the car on 100 octane fuel+ LPG system installed for daily usage

Yep all of that would work. Shouldn't think you would have to modify the combustion chamber, just choose an MLS gasket that will lower the CR to 9:1. Also try to fit an intercooler in there somehow. Roots chargers produce quite a lot of heat. Most crucial thing is to have it mapped on the dyno by someone competent.

While at this - is there any MLS head gasket on the market that would lower the 16v N/A CR to 8:1 or close?

Too thick. Use low comp pistons!

I've got a 2mm thick stainless decompression plate I had made that I'm never going to use.

I can get my hands on a intercooler too,but will it give any benefits considering I will not run max high boost(0.4-0.6). Btw,this one should do? https://races-shop.com/engine-gaske...oma-20-16v-bore-87mm-thickness-16mm.html

I was thinking about this too..(as I love the sound of SC engine in lancia 037 smile )

to place the SC just under the modified intake manifold (kept only part with injectors and custom made plenum) instead of AC compressor..

to lower CR U can use sligtly machined stock pistons (as there is lot of meat to remove.. EG.. 2mm deeper stock bowl would be enough..), or 16VT ones...

only thing I´m affraid of is too restrictive exhaust manifold. which can cause serious problems (as it did on my modified 16V atmo in the past)..rest of exhaust of course free flow 2,5" at least...

16VT turbo injectors and custom mapping and it would be fine.. you should be anywhere above 200bhp based on other mods...
