Is my (Std) actuator OK?

Is my (Std) actuator OK? - 23/01/2006 22:46

Just going through 'to do' before my Unichip installation

At the mo I'm running Gtec-1 & PBV, std turbo, std DV, std IC.
Having fitted before the Unichip: PA-FMIC & Decat.

Just wondered if my actuator is up to the job, I have to screw the PBV right in to get 1.0bar at peak power RPM; I'm getting boost as follows:

3400-4200 rpm 1.3
4800 rpm 1.2
5200 rpm 1.1
5600 rpm 1.0
6200 rpm 0.9
6600 rpm 0.85

Or is this about right for the standard turbo?

Any thoughts appreciated

Sounds pretty good to me - much better than what I could get the standard turbo to hold with an FMIC and boost controller.....

You may find that with an FMIC and the standard turbo you'll loose the top end a bit though - i did. If you'r going to boost up to 1.2 bar then you'll need the FMIC if you push the car in 4th or 5th gear to be safe. At 1.0 bar or 1.1 bar there is no need for an FMIC IMO unless you plan to get a hybrid sometime and hold more boost to the redline.

Richard, you are actually running a PRV not a PBV!

With a PRV your actuator setting is unimportant (unless its stuck open or shut of course) because the PRV wont let any air through until it approaches the release pressure.

This isnt true with a PBV which is entirely dependant on actuator setting.

The BCV11 wont go much over 1.3bar and by the time you are at peak revs you will be lucky to see more than 0.8bar as the standard turbo wont flow any more air.

If you want more boost you'll need my BCV11-BB valve or go electronic

Shows what I know, eh Cosmo So she sounds about right for the Std turbo which'll do for now

Even with an electronic boost controller you'll be hard pressed to hold much more boost to the redline with the standard turbo....if you try to you'll just get boost fluctuations.

Yep. I'll leave it alone until the mapping.
Then I just know it'll be an uprated turbo (watching Kingpleb's GT28R import thread ) - its either that or a hybrid, plus fuelpump, and then a re-map
