turbo question - 12/02/2007 02:50

a little broblem. turbo A : compressor A/R .70 and exhaust A/R .63 turbo B : compressor A/R .50 and exhaust A/R .70, but with douple in . so needs pulssive exhaust manifold ( no problem ) . now my question is : is it turbo A or turbo B, that spools quicker ? same size wings on both turbos .

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 02:54

smaller compressor housing the better the spool up.

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 03:19

i would have thought the exhaust housing had more to do with spool up as thats what the exhaust gasses are spinning first whereas i would have thought the compressor housing affects how quick the boost builds ect

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 03:21

Its the compressor housing. Exhaust housing depends how much top end power you get. This is my understanding.

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 03:23

what im trying to say is that for your compressor to work it needs to be driven by your exhaust turbine yeh?so if you have a large housing with a relatively small exhaust turbine there isnt going to be enough pressure to drive the exhaust turbine round and therfore turn the compressor wheel whereas you make the housing smaller to the size of the turbing and therefore more pressure of exhaust gas to drive both turbines

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 03:26

A : comp .70 exhaust .63 B : comp .50 exhaust .70, but with douple in. I think that B turbo spools quicker, there is little bigger exhaust side, but its with douple, so ... and comp. side is smaller...

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 03:32

whats double in?you mean a double or split pulse inlet?if so you cant really compare 2 turbos like that
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 03:38

I mean these turbos are exactly the same, but : other has .50 comp side and .70 exhaust with splitted housing.. or something ( my english) so it needs pulssive exhaust manifold. theres gonna be new manifold, so thats not a broblem, I m just wondering is the A or the B better

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 03:40

well i think B will spool quicker but wont produce as much power as A

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 04:06

why.. ? same size wings and B has .70 exhaust side ( A .63 ) is it because of that compressor side ? B= .50 A= .70 ?

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 04:12

Compressor side is the one to worry about.

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 04:22

turbos have 56,5mm comp and 58,5mm exhaust .. good for over 400hp .. ?

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 04:26

go to ray hall turbocharging
and read about compressor flow maps and a/r ratings, easier than me trying to explain

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 06:21

Flow maps mean jack dude. Sorry but it all depends on the car the flow graph/map was done on. For instance the gt28r is rated to 280bhp IIRC. Yet there is 10+ people on the forum who have higher than that with the same or lesser turbo.

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 07:04

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 18:47

there is another hmm lets call it turbo C ... it has 56mm exhaust .63 A/R and 58,1mm comp. .50 A/R is that too small for 400hp ?

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 21:21

flow maps mean alot!looking at a flow map can tell you how a turbo will work on your car but obviously you need to know certain things about your car like how much air it can get in ect ;\)

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 21:30

for 400BHP you could do with looking at the GT30 series turbo's

Re: turbo question - 12/02/2007 22:00

this turbos costs only 575e, so garrett would be at least double price ? they are master power turbos A= mp 802128 B= 810003 C = mp 810021

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 00:06

Hard to comment on spool up / suitable turbo as there doesnt seem to be any compressor maps to look at

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 00:27

You can't buy a turbo without look at the map first.

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 01:52

You can't buy a turbo without look at the map first. then we cant buy these, because I havent seen any maps available ..

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 01:59

Well that was kinda mine and Begbie's point you need a map in order to plot how it will perform otherwise your just guessing. The turbo is very important buy the wrong one and you'll forever regret it. If you ask me I would only buy genuine Garrett.

Yes, nice pics, but still no compressor maps.

No maps, no idea what to recommend

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 04:24

good product or not if you choose the wrong one you arent going to get the spool up you want or the power you want, thats why looking at a compressor flow map can tell you how the turbo is going to perform-finishes flogging dead horse-just buy it and tell us how it does

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 15:25

good thing is that my car is only summer/hobby car ... so maybe ill do the test and let you know \:\)

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 15:41

so, whats your opinion, on garrett turbos ? what should I use ? 400hp-450hp and I m gonna use : 599cc injectors, 3" exhaust, new exhaust manifold, walbro, fmic, etc etc .. kms engine management, or the original one... both are fine .. yes we can \:D

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 20:02

Re: turbo question - 13/02/2007 20:28

Why not just email MasterPower Turbos, tell em u want to spend your hard earned money with them but will not do so untill you can see compressor maps for the turbos your interested in.

Re: turbo question - 20/07/2007 19:43

we have now tested masterpower. 58,1mm / 56mm .48 exhaust ( mp 810019 ) side. test car 155 Q4 . boosts very good . 3 gear 3000rpm/ 1bar. soon we get some RR results..

Re: turbo question - 21/07/2007 04:33

About the spoolup.

According to one of the largest (if not the largest) aftermarket turbosuppliers here in sweden. The exhaust side is what you look on if you want mess with spoolup. Compressor side has very little impact.
Exhaust side, a/r. housing, turbine wheel. etc.
As someone already mentioned. Its the exhaust side wich drives the compressor side.
I asked this because I had the same dilema myself.

Re: turbo question - 21/07/2007 11:13

yes I know that. before we get any results I was thinking somewhere between 3000-3300rpm spool up. ( looking about same size garrett turbos spool up )
