As far as i know the standard turbo has a 270 bearing in which relies on back pressure from the cat, which is why when you decat the seals go, However the 360 bearing needs no back pressure and should be ok. If im wrong can someone correct me please.

The turbo company told me it was nothing to do with the thrust bearing when I asked them, they said something about total loss oil seals but I have no idea what they are \:D

ive heard that you can only do it with both, total loss oil seals are just thicker/double oil seals which are more common in racing use. have you already had your turbo built?

turbo built last year before i bought it, i have a receipt for a 360 degree turbo for 500 quid plus a receipt for fitting thats all i know but i need to know by monday if i can get away with a decat

Re: decat pipe - 27/04/2008 01:04

right a 360 deg bearing has a larger support surface to fit an uprated thust as opposed to a std 270deg which allows to give sustained higher boost.
back pressure is down to the tubine piston seal the standard one will give the ghost with a decate fitted but you will need a stagger gap turbine piston seal which provides a total seal and is far more durable i would have compressor carbon seals fitted aswell.
having a few years experience rebuilding its all down to the boost settings aswell trying to overcook the std turbo

Re: decat pipe - 27/04/2008 01:16

why not go for a 200cell cat it will still give the desired backpressure and will flow a lot better realasing some horses and noise \:o
i am currnly devoloping them at the moment should have some ready for next month all 304 polished stainless

Re: decat pipe - 27/04/2008 01:52

have you asked the question if the uprated seal is fitted 90% of 360 kit's supplied have the stagger seal in the kit??
you looking at around £100 to have stagger seal fitted... who uprated the turbo may i ask??

Re: decat pipe - 27/04/2008 02:01

wow now im worried bein running a de-cat for last few months didnt release i would do this to the turbo...

Redinstead you obviously know what your talking about how much would it cost me for you to rebuild a turbo that would suit the de-cat and increase power to around 300bhp i have more mods such as.. fmic, k&n with SIP, and cat back exhaust with de-cat and manual prv

Re: decat pipe - 27/04/2008 03:21

£300 fully rebuilt inc new 360deg thrust and uprated stagger seals and journal bearings
your existing turbo must be seviceable ie no damage to housing/wheel/seazed etc
superspool spec +£120

Re: decat pipe - 27/04/2008 13:52

All i have is a 3 yr old receipt from james twist garage for a 360 degree brg turbo at 500 quid plus fitting, but if im looking at about 300 quid for it to be recon'd its not the end of the world so i still want a decat!(im either brave or stupid but its a turbo or wall paper & stuff)

yeah you would have to go for the superspool and a new turbine shaft if the compressor housing is damaged the turbine housing can be successfully repaired
