powertec vs pipercross induction kit

powertec vs pipercross induction kit - 16/12/2005 22:35

i bought my 16v turbo just over a month ago. 50k, full service history and one lady owner from new. couldn't believe my luck, dealer was so confident with it i got 3 year warranty for £100 quid.

Anyway, ive already fitted a dv26 dump valve which sounds great but im looking for and induction kit now.

ive been searching the web to try and find the best one, k&n i'm staying away from. just sucks in warm air from what ive heard.

its between the pipercross and powertec. both have cold air feeds. quite a few sites have raved on about the powertec kits and how good they sound. has anybody fitted either of these and what were the results?

Hmm, i hadn't heard that about the K&N kits before. Will be interested what others opinions on the pipercross and powertec are.

K&N, the original and the best, IMO.

You just need to buy a K&N cone and fit instead of airbox, much cheaper! (and just as good)

its strange how there are more options on the 16vt, surely companies should target the 20vt market more.

Might be because of the 16v being homologatied (is that a word?) for rally? Which, if I remember correct, the 20v is not.
Also, the 16v Lampredi engine have been around for a bit longer than the 20v engine. Even though I don't think that's a good argument nowdays, since even the 20v starts getting old.

Im not sure about the K&N sucking in warm air, if its in the same location as the airbox then its gonna suck in the same temperature air as the airbox ?

I really dont think there are enough 20vt engines out there for the big companys to make tuning kits for the engine.

how can a k+n just suck in warm air? come on man....be serious. as it's already been said, the k+n cone goes in place of you original air box, a piper cross, green cotton, ram air etc, will all go in the same place (without modifacation to the kit). do you think the k+n will sit there and say.....

"no air......your to cold to pass through me, go and warm up by the engine and then you can pass through"

if there is warm air around your induction kit, it will suck in warm air, and that is ANY induction kit.
if you want a cold air feed, it shouldn't cost you any more than £5. or better still.... buy a heat sheild. or if you're really creative, relocate the cone using old hoses.

i have a K+n 57i in place of my air box and have had no problem whatsoever with it.

Craig..........I might only be 19........but I'm not just a youngster with a pretty face.............I'm not even that!

my apologies people, see where your all coming from. my mate, who drives civic type r talking rubbish. i'm new to tuning as my previous cars have all been company ones. i didn't really fancy tuning up a toyota avensis or mazda 6. thats why i came on here cos my mates aren't exactly tuning experts like myself. still has anybody used the powertec or pipercross?

ive got a green stufff panel filter which works great. ive always used panel filters and had better results than an induction kit.

Julian, that's what I also think. I also have a panel filter(K&N) and I drilled holes in my box, but I closed them now.

If you want colder air to the Cone filter just run a 3" lightweight hose from behind the passenger side of your front grill straight to the filter site. I've drilled some small feeder holes in the blanked out portion on the right of my slatted grill, fitted the above hose and got lower temps when checked with electronic thermometer!

fitted the induction kit, sounds very nice. and can notice some power gains obviously nothing drastic but just seems to pull better round 4000rpm.

recommend pairing this with a dump valve, when i release the throttle i get two very nice sounds.
