uprated turbo with ebv?? - 03/06/2008 00:57

hi folks.

been looking into possibly upgrading the turbo on my coop for either a hybrid or possibly a bigger unit and was just wondering if anyone has run one of these using the standard ebv?

at the moment the only mods i have are a gtech and a powerflow stainless exhaust and the car runs well. never got a boost gauge or a fuelling check which i probably should have but the cars been running fine like that for around 2 years now.

If i did get a bigger turbo (i appretitiate i would need associated bits for a bigger gt28 unit) i would probably get an uprated intercooler however i dont want the car sounding ridicuously loud with an induction kit or massive exhaust and i also want to keep the safety features the ebv gives.

what kind of gains would i get form my current setup with just a turbo + pro alloy intercooler?

I would also consider getting the car mapped to make sure its running correctly but i want to keep everything else how it is to keep the noise down.

Is this feasible and has anyone used the ebv with a bigger turbo?

Thanks

I dont think the EBV would work with a bigger turbo unless the actuator was the same strength, which is unlikely. Usually a bigger turbo means a boost controller as well.

Personally I would free up the induction route with a straight induction pipe and cone filter before going for a bigger turbo. Bigger turbos flow more air, so you get more power for the same amount of boost, you might then also need a walbro fuel pump, and the wiring mod to make sure it gets enough fuel. Then it would need to be RR'd for sure after that, and before you know it you have 300 bhp... \:D
