Which coupe do you own?

What power do you want from the car? How much money do you have to spend? How do you want the car to drive?

bit of a clue there Si! ;\) \:\)

As suba says, you really need to be setting yourself power targets and budgets as you will also need supporting mods with a turbo upgrade! \:\)

Re: uprated turbo - 04/06/2008 11:01

The reason is the 20VT does not have a T3 manifold flange - hence a T3/T4 is no good.

You can upgrade the OE unit to 280bhp by changing compressor wheels etc, most seem to go GT28 series turbos for upgrades normally if funds allow

Don't try and choose the turbo - make decisions on what you want the car to do and the choice will be made for you.

For example

Budget
Power aims
Spoolup revs

If the answers are, £3k - £4k, 350 bhp and 3,500rpm, then its a Gt28RS 0.86 or maybe a GT2871 0.64, together with the ancilliaries that would be needed to run the boost required (FMIC, filter, fuel pump, exhaust, chip/remap, boost controller etc etc)

However, if your answer is £1k, 275bhp, 2,500rpm, then you're looking at a GTi-R hybrid, G-Tec 1 chip, K&N panel filter, PRV set to 1.2 bar and a RR session to check the fuelling

The reason that i was looking to upgrade was beacouse i think the mannifold has a crack init(or so i was told),it makes a bit of a noise when it is cold but sounds fine when it is warmed up!, but i was going to have a mannifold built for it to fit the t3/t4 as i have a new one which i bought for my calibra turbo but i have recently sold her and bought myself a 20v turbo coupe and i must say i am impressed she isnt as quick as the calibra (yet) but i can see promise.
If anyone has any advice on the little beastie it would be much appreciated.

cheers

A well-modded 20VT will be more than a match for a tweaked Calibra

However, unless you're going for over 450bhp, don't bother with the custom manifold - stock is fine.

Also, you might as well sell the T3/T4, as it probably wouldn't be suitable for the Coupe anyway - the 5-pot lump responds quite well to small turbos (I'm at 400bhp from a GT2871)

There's VAST amounts of tuning info on here - get reading \:D

I repeat:

What power do you want from the car? How much money do you have to spend? How do you want the car to drive?

Re: uprated turbo - 04/06/2008 14:07

The build will be on going so i will be spending with just the readies at the end of the month... i was just looking at maybe a turbo upgrade, intercooler (front )upgrade, chips, blue flame exhaust, induction, dump valve, le kit and lowering, i will be getting the standard alloys referbished and coloured black.
obviousley i would be doing the other upgrades to go along with the power upgrades(leads, plugs, fuel pump etc)
around 300bhp would be fine for me \:\)

Re: uprated turbo - 04/06/2008 14:16

Go for a GTIR hybrid turbo (uses the standard 20vt mounting on the DP).

Alternatively go for a Garett GT2560R (AKA GT28R) - different mounting and is a more expensive roller bearing unit.

Re: uprated turbo - 12/06/2008 18:37

How much would a GtiR hybrid normally go for.?

Re: uprated turbo - 12/06/2008 18:40

more than a GT28R probably \:D

but you need loads of bits to go with the GT28R to get it to fit.

call Turbo Dynamics and ask them about the MD238 - their code name for the GTiR hybrid.
