Strut brace fitting problems

Strut brace fitting problems - 23/07/2008 09:19

I’m having a bit of trouble fitting my OMP strut brace as there are parts in the way on both the passenger side mounts. The mount towards the front of the car has a black U-bend pipe in the way and the mount nearest the screen has wires in the way. The wires have connector blocks which I’ve disconnected but they are too short to move or re-route anywhere.

I’ll try and get some pictures up this evening.

Cheers

they do fit m8. just loose them wires up you will have to sort the fuse box. very tricky but with a little time and effort you will get it to fit. very worth it in the end.

Begbie you don't have an engine bay, you have a mini nuclear reactor in there.

Truffle what did you do?

I thought it was only going to take about 5 minutes to fit this \:o

Okay, had a spare bit of time last weekend and decided I was really going to fit it this time.

I didn't manage it!

The bolts have a non-removable washer on them and it's too large to fit through the strut brace...

Should I just take the hint and sell the strut brace?

A screwdriver and a hammer cures the non removable washer problem, just force them over that little lip \:\)

Didn't it damage the threads?

Re: Strut brace fitting problems - 14/09/2008 16:26

No, once it was over the first thread I just held the washer with some plyers and screwed the bolt out of the washer.
That must be how it got there in the first place \:\)

An old thread, I know butfor anyone reading this you can't just hit the washer over the first thread and screw it off. This WILL damage the threads.

Captive washers are manufactured onto the bolt. The washer is put onto the blank and the threads are formed afterwards so it physically cannot come off.
