16vt - 1.5bar+

Just wanted to know if there were any owners who would like to run more than 1.5bar boost, this is on the standard ecu?

i think nick_d was talking about this a while back!

I did consider it, plan at the time was to go with a cosworth MAP (3bar - 2 absolute) sensor and with the 630cc injectors Nickd and I run there should be plenty of fuel availble

Mainly for mid range torque

For a large T04 wheel in excess of 1.5bar should still be easily "on the islands" and with such a low CR standard thought it might be a goer

Heard conflicting info if the ecu goes into limp mode over 1.5 bar

i ran 1.5 bar on my dink stage 2 by accident for a full week and no problems apart from clutch slip cool now im back to 1.1 bar and 1.3 bar

2bar - 3 absolute! Sorry don't mean to sound pedantic! smile

All (or most) MAP sensors output a voltage from 0-5V no matter what pressure range they can measure. No matter whether you have a 1bar/2bar etc... MAP sensor all the ecu sees is a voltage between 0V and 5V.

As long as you know the MAP breakpoints, you can recalculate them for whatever MAP sensor you have.

Very true but there might be a safety routine in the ECU that if it sees 5V's on the map sensor it goes into limp mode.

Agreed, they both have 0-5v outputs but obviously if you are using the same number of breakpoints for a wider scale (range) you lose resolution.

I had heard that when the boost exceeds the max voltage for the sensor the ECU goes into a limp or breakdown mode, I believe this was Dink or Vas who told me this but I have never been able to confirm it, however my car did go "a bit strange" after an overboost in excess of 1.5bar.

I have run 1.45bar on the dyno where standard injectors were too small for a T04e turbo, but if the option was there I would run 25psi (1.7 bar) as my turbo is still efficent there (50trim) and at 8:1 I think it should be do-able

So other than Saint, nobody else wanting to run more than 1.5bar?

I might be, but i won't have the same limitations laugh

can the rods take it, headstuds or head gasket for that matter?

From what i have gleaned off the integrale forum, yes. The old EVOCARS chip used to run 1.7bar mid-range but would suggest to swap the head gasket for a start, but people ran it without doing any of that and seemed to have no issues.

Might? If the power keeps climbing, you'll keep boosting wink

I'd be well up for this once i've found out what my smoking issue is?? (got a horrible feeling it is something sinister and if so i'll be VERY angry with myself!!

firstly i'd have to fit different map sensor and probably a better clutch!!

As soon as car is HEALTHY again i'll save some pennies and maybe give 1.7 bar a whirl!! prob also like to fit a decent boost controller so i didn't have to have 1.7 bar all the time... although it would be fun.... lol

Also hoping my manifold is different shape to begbie's, as his was externally wastegated??
If its the same then theres a good chance it's damaged my engine also!! Naughty SCARA!!
will be re fitting a PORTED standard manifold anyways!!
