I know the coupe has pretty decent Fuel Injection as it is, but would the really serious tuners be interested?

I have one I built was going to put it to my engine then decided that is not advanced enough to control what I want to do so went with DTA P8 PRO. So now I’m going to fit it to a Proton and see if I can get it working.

well i have heard of a megasquirt running on a 1000bhp car, but then again, what is an ECU at the end of the day? an over-sized calcualtor which all pretty much do the same thing

Almost true, if you think that then you might as well say all engines are the same it's just a block of metal where petrol is burnt and move a vehicle. In terms of ECU's some have more control than others, better oscillation within the timing circuits, and better controlled current actuators. Also it's down to how the code interoperates the input signals and how the processors deals with it; then multiply this buy up to 14,000 rpm and it then all become pretty important. Also the mapping software is it accurate and user friendly? So in my opinion the ECU plays a big role in the performance of a modern car as it basically control’s everything. And I’m sure that the reason why you considering using a Motec system?

From a quick squint at the specs, that DTA system is impressive - has more stuff built in. Having said that, the megasquirt can run to the same revs/cylinders so the processor looks comparable. I guess it depends how many auxillary systems you need to hang off the ECU... altho the megasquirt "only" does 12x12 maps. 1/3 the price tho

I'm thinking of putting one on my BMW (E30 325) where it'll be more than adequate. I'd be interested to hear your results when you compare the systems.

A Megasquirt system could potentially run a 16V Coupe, not a 20V one though.
MS 3.0 is the one, since the earlier versions can't handle ignition without extra stuff and software.
The former MS-AVR, now VEMS, should fit both 16V and 20V engines. Problem is that the documentation is, quite odd or awkward. It's all spread out in a Wiki. Quite powerful ECU though especially when you look at the pricetag and compare with other brands.
I think it all comes down to how much work you are prepared to do yourself. Both MS and VEMS would require a bit of soldering and figuring stuff out, cursing Bosch for not releasing information about their electronics. A more expensive system, DTA, Motec, Nira etc. would be easier to install.

You can buy prebuilt MS with spark and fuel, but I agree 3.0 is the one to go for. Why can't MS run a 20V coupe? (I'm not challenging your assertion, just trying to learn the problems).
Cheers

As I've understood it MS is unable to control injection on a 5 cylinder engine. Especially if you want ignition as well, not to mention sequential.
For a 20V engine VEMS is the DIY ECU to go for.

I was thinking about megasquirt also but I decided to tune the iaw ecu which is still more advanced at this time.

I don't know of such options for the Bosch Motronic hence why I've looked into VEMS Genboard. Seems quite promising, and most OE sensors can be used.

MS can now do 3 and 5 cylinder engines. Dunno about 7...

hell no wen the mules available its hold her head fimley forced induction, full stroke, and mega squirt,[timeing has to be spto on] stand back and exhaust mouth instantly gets rid of the unused fule
