Replacing front & rear speakers

Im sure this question has been asked many times before & i have browsed the ice forum but a lot of answers are a couple of years old so im sorry for asking,

Anyway here goes: I want to change both front & rear speakers from my standards & would like some input on best sound for price quality options.

Also what are dimensions to look for when choosing some that will fit in holes without loads of fabricating etc.

Is the original wiring for speakers ok to use even though its 16 yrs old or is a massive strip out & re wire required?

I am using a Kenwood HU at the moment that was installed when i got the coupe so maybe a new HU could be factored into the equation also.

I would suggest a good set of Alpine SPG-17CS which include tweeter, woofer and cossover. Direct fit for woofer in front doors and back but for the tweeter you need to modify the original support for the front one.

Option 2: SPG-17CS front and SXE-17C2 (two way speakers) for the back.
Wiring it's not an issue as long you don't want to power everything by an amplifier.

Any modern speakers are a significant upgrade from the standard kit if you've not already done it get them fitted and enjoy!

The 6x9s require a bit of extra work to fit in the rear quarter panels, there's a how to on here for that job.

I have replaced my rear speakers with some co axs. but if you do decide to do the job it I recommend you get some new sound proofing for the interior as the old stuff that was stuck to the inside of the rear was ..past its sell by date and falling apart.. and be prepared to rust proof the inner as you might have have water ingress via the pininfarina badge.
I did not go the whole hog and make an MDF panel but just bolted it to the car (sacrilege) with rubber washers for isolation . You will need a full tool kit as it need at least 3 different screw heads and an allen key ..oh yes and the how to says there was 3 nuts holding up the seat back behind the driver ..I only found 2

Also don't cut the connector off the wires if you don't intend to replace the wiring as you can split the block thingy and it reveals two spade connectors

last year, I did the interior rear three quarter panel cleanup & rustproof. Then shortly after I swapped out the interior for tan leather.

When I did this, I had the replacement tan interior panels also (!), and after a bit of research I fitted Infinity Kappa 62.11i speakers as I was doing it.

These speakers are interesting. The HF driver (tweeter) is mounted on top of the full range and at an angle. There is a 'button' to depress on them which raises HF output to make them brighter.
And let's face it- it's pushing through that arm-rest-grille in the rear panel, which is hardly acoustically transparent, so it needs a boost to account for roll off.
Also, these Infinity things have an extra 2 or 3 dB efficiency over anything else I could see- so they are louder and make better use of the power available.

Plus the the 62.11i fits directly to the rear panel using the standard mounting holes and has power handling for up to "225w @ 2 ohms". Impedance is a little ambiguous there, but the headroom exists for system expansion without them not being up for it...

The weight of the things in itself is reassuring- serious magnets.

Also, specwise, they had a low frequency extension to a claimed "40 Hz" (from memory). I'm not a fan of sub bass stuff, so to have full range drivers that can extend that far down was pretty amazing.
Again, I couldn't find much else that would do that.

I had no idea such a guide existed. What a fool.

I know it's an old thread, but maybe I am lucky to still get an answer: the SPG-17CS woofers in the front door and their tweeters replacing stock tweeters can be mounted without crossover? And if it is not posible, where is the crossover to be mounted? Should I go for S65C, which have inline crossovers for tweeters?

The tweeters must be connected to the crossover to prevent bass signal ruining them. The woofers not so important and the wiring a devil to trace anyway. Fit them in the cavity behind the dash side panels (revealed when doors open).
