i had a 650 with intelistart and it was so complexed and rubbish. i like the idea but i never got it to work properly and most cliford alarms are unreliable.
get a decent toad alarm put in a ditch the flash gimicks of the cliford.

Cheers for that mate!
So a toad alarm is the way forward?
How are the Viper systems?

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 31/03/2009 10:53

i just had a basic toad alarm in my r33 and it worked fine, not flashy or anything but easy to use and never went off when i didn't want it to or anything although it was a cat1 i would of like a couple of extra sensors on the car.
the clifford was a pain like if you used the remote to start the car you couldn't turn it off as its turbo timer kicked in and wouldn't time properly and the only way to stop it was to set the alarm off when you arived at the destionaion and look stupid and then contact the tracker company to say its a false alarm. very annoying!

Ive had a couple of cliffords and never really had a problem just sounds like there was a problem with the settings i do agree that toads are proberly more reliable but they are a much more basic system so less to go wrong. and ive still known them to go wrong

Remember any alarm is going to be crap if you get a monkey to install it not saying yours was peanuthead but ive seen some seriously shoody wiring

This might be wrong but i remember reading somewhere clifford made viper or vise versa

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 31/03/2009 14:16

its ok it was already in the car and it could have been a monkey who put it in but the alarm was serviced each year and still had loads of probelms. heap of junk but then i may even get one in the coop if i can get someone who know how to install them properly

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 31/03/2009 15:11

yes im sure Clfford made Viper, they are slightly cheaper too.
Not sure of a decent system to get now.
I would like some extra toys on it though.

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 31/03/2009 15:14

Ive only ever used one guy to install alarms (and he was also to only out sourced guy the company i worked for would use picky main dealer) and hes sound never seen him do a bad job. If you want ill see how far he'll travel. but i think he only fits cliffords. ill have a word as i need an alarm for my coup and still unsure on brand.

clifford, hornet viper ect, all belong to directed electronics. As an alarm engineer here is my view,

If you want an alarm with all the toys then yes the clifford is the one, they have the best and safest remote start, they have a long range ariel (and i mean a looong way) lots of timed outputs for all different things, and many sensors to choose from. Plus all settings can be changed by the car owner as user settings is in the hand book.

Now Toad, a great cheaper than clifford alarm, does what it says on the tin, no flash, no pazaz, down sides remote start not worth getting as range on a toad remote is short so if you got to be that close remote start pointless. To change any settings on a toad it must be done by an engineer, they dont give out the info to cutomers.

cool. sounds like mine was just badly installed. i might get another one on the coop then as it needs a alarm.

magicsy how come you are thinking of selling the coop?
what would replace it?

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 02/04/2009 05:58

Was thinking about an alarm upgrade myself as have just spent a small fortune getting my coop up to tip top condition. The coop seems fairly secure car as standard though.

Has anyone had theirs stolen or broken into on the forum as a matter of interest?

Im not sure why i want to sell to be honest, Through summer Me the wife and dog and baby like to go camping, so obvious reasons there.
The knocking noise i have had is to be fixed to today once and for all, with new Shocks. i guess its got me down. cost me money finding the right part to replace etc.
Now pretty much everything is sorted. Perhaps i will feel different after today.
I am really not sure what to replace it with looking on pistonheads etc. maybe something bigger. i would poss have up to another 2k to put toward another car. there are a few cars hat would swap, but nothing really comes close to the value you can get for a coop.

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 02/04/2009 08:31

i am in the same position. i have spent 5k atleast on buying the coop and getting it reliable and mechanically sound and anything i like to replace it with is anoth 4k really and then i think i will end up sorting that car out :-(
i might as well hold on to the coop and make it into something special.

outof interest how much would a decent cliford alarm with intellistart and all the gadgets be installed now?

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 02/04/2009 09:52

i think its around 80 quid for a fitter to do an alarm bit extra for intelistart as well.

There are a few Cliffords on ebay at moment im looking at.

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 04/04/2009 15:21

i bought a clifford whilst in los angeles about 1 year or so ago
$119 special offer and with the exchange rate at almost $2 to the pound it was well worth a gamble.
my mate helped me with the installation and the only trouble i have had is the central locking sometimes dosn't unlock on the fob, however i think this is more of a coop issue rather than a cliiford problem.
seems a good alarm all in all.well pleased.

Re: Clifford G5 With inteliStart - 16/07/2009 11:38

Hi I would just like to warn all others users against using BOUNCY123 forum member. I paid him £500 for a clifford with all the toys and intellistart, he rushed the installation and it never worked properly.

He refused to come and fix the problems and wouldnt return my call. £300 later I have had to have it professionally installed and have been told it was the worst installation they had ever seen with bare wires that could have sent my coop up in smoke.

So a word to the wise DO NOT trust your coop to this man. Please PM me if you want any more deatils as I dont want anyone else to waste the money I did with this Sh*t.
