Removing the Clarion HU - 03/01/2006 02:49

Got a new HU, and want to remove the stnd Clarion. Can this be done without the fork-like thingys that go down the side to get it out? Do they make it a lot easier? And if I do need them, where can I buy them?

Easier with the forked removal tools. But failing that use two blunt knives but it is quite easy to break something when pulling the unit out.

On balance i would try a local Car Stereo shop and ask nicely.

I tried a load of ice retailers for the fork tools, but could not get any. Even the local retailer said i woundnt be able to get any of them and he is a coop owner. Its a right pain in the a*s to do the job but it can be done, just be carefull.

I used a metal 30cm ruler down the side of it, pulled back the carpet from the passenger footwell and pushed it forwards abit. Then stuck the ruler down the other side and pushed it out. Took about a minute.

I have also removed the centre console which makes task very easy and has the added bonus of making it easy to remove the clarion cage and make a nice tidy job of installing your new cage.

Thanks for the replies. Actually, I need to take the central console off anyway to replace some bulbs, so it sounds like that's the way to go.

I found these ones, which are 'for the majority of CLarions' - do they look right?

Yes thats them but 12 pounds

Forget them and take out the console. You can then easily see the release mechanism and push the stereo out. For a fiver i will do it

I did the same for Vickster,, took no longer than 1/2 hour and that included fitting of the new unit. If you are in this area sure will do it for nowt or a beer token or two

All you need to remove the Clarion is a decent sized bread knife.

Slip it down one side of the HU to relase the safety catch, then pull gently to ease that side clear of the catch. Do the same on the opposite side and the unit should come out easily.

Those tools are in Halfords, £3.99 a pair.

Do one side at a time, pull that side out a bit then do the other and she should slide out nicely.

(Knives should work just as well though)

Got a little question about removing the clarion stereo.
I have got the tools but i still cant get the stereo out for some reason.
Are there any bolt's to undo or anything else?
Help on this would be great other wise i will have to take the console out and dont really want to do that as it seems like hard work

Just use a nice knife, took me all of about 5 mins to take out Head Unit and cage and refit new ones. Must be one of the easiest jobs to do on the coop.
You don't even need ISO leads which is also a bonus!
