cambelt changing - 29/03/2012 13:55

I have spotted a really nice 20v turbo that i was keen to see, however, the cambelt was last changed in 2007, although it has only done 13,000 miles since then. when should it need a new belt? thanks will

ASAP. Age is as important as mileage.

yeah that is what i thought, it is a shame as it looks great, it is dark green and has cream leather interior

It needn't be a deal breaker, just factor in the costs of getting the belts done and adjust your offer accordingly.

Around £500 from a specialist.

ok thanks for your advice, I might chat to the chap regarding the coupe tonight and see what he thinks, where would you advise getting it done? i think the car has been to l & m for the last few visits

Mine's about the same. Changed in 2007 and about 10000 miles since.

I'm just doing the job now and taking lots of photos.

The belts actually look like they are in really good condition still.

Total cost of parts for mine was £140 because I chose to do all the belts, 2 tensioners and the water pump.

One thing that is good is that the car you're considering is possibly quite low on mileage, which will reflect in the general condition of the body, engine, and amount of other maintenance it is going to need.

Check the battery, exhaust, handbrake, and brake disc condition on a car that hasn't done much recently.

i have spoken to the owner, and apparently someone from bristol might view it tonight, but i am going tomorrow morning if it is still for sale. seems family owned for 12 years, which must be good i guess

My one was last changed 2007 and now done 9,000 miles. Is there anyway to see or tell if it's on the way out?

Think JBT is more competitive than that!? Pretty sure when it comes to a belt change hes the cheapest confused

Re: cambelt changing - 30/03/2012 08:00

Last time I spoke to JBT, it would cost £340 and that included the water pump withy the metal impella.

If I was you id get the belt guard put on too, for that little bit extra....and piece of mind!

Re: cambelt changing - 30/03/2012 09:33

The above is incorrect,
The cambelt kit and aux belt is £300 all in and the pump is between £120-£150 fitted on top.
