going to collect a 97 coupe non turbo any tips - 28/03/2010 18:09

i absolutely love the look of the fiat coupe and have just bought a 1997 coupe non turbo only 60k miles in black.
i have never even been in one and bought it off ebay. it been well looked after, i think!
please any tips welcome, i plan to keep it for years. i actually will use it to commute 40 miles to work every day so i hope the fuel bill does not kill me.

Fuel is not going to be a problem in a non turbo

Welcome by the way, please give us a link to the auction and we'll let you know what we think wink

Re: going to collect a 97 coupe non turbo any tips - 28/03/2010 18:56

ive looked at the add and as long as what he says is true it seems like you have got a good low millage example, if not a bit pricy thow, the 20v na does not hold its price very well and i would not have paid more then £800. Maybe £1000 if it was in such good condition.

If the cambelt was last done in 2006 like the add says, its due a fresh one , and your looking at £300-£400 for this.

Dont want to put you off or anything, just thought you should know the score.

Re: going to collect a 97 coupe non turbo any tips - 28/03/2010 19:06

20v n/a mpg probably 25-32 ish, depending on how and where you are driving

4 minutes to go, £1600 is enough for it especially if needs belts. However, what other 2l sports car can you get for that price with that mileage that looks so darn pretty wink

If you like it, can afford to run it, and plan to keep it, who cares if you have paid a couple of hundred quid over the 'normal' price for one of the many sheds that are out there

If you win, enjoy!!! laugh And you will, they sound fantastic

i agree v. I have spent a small fortune on my na and i never plan to get rid of it. I have a 20vt aswell but the na is my daily drive and i love it. Also the engine is solid as a rock with not as many things to go wrong as with the turbo.

Re: going to collect a 97 coupe non turbo any tips - 28/03/2010 20:59

thanks vickster and niff i have won it and will be driving it by 10am. i read someone talking about the noise and i do plan to keep it for years and years, it will make me smile going to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i really really cant wait and £1600 for a car that looks that good and only 61k miles is amazing. i was looking for one really well looked after so hopefully it was.
really really cant wait to hear it.
thanks again i will log on tomorrow to rave about the noise of it.
thanks james

Re: going to collect a 97 coupe non turbo any tips - 28/03/2010 21:45

I would reccomend the 20v non turbo chip. Flea on the forum has made the chip, they really make a noticeable difference to the fuel economy on the non turbos and also add a bit of extra grunt!

Welcome to the forum and best of luck with the car :-)

i agree with mario, for around £45 the chip is a great little upgrade, and it does make a difference.

Now the deal is done, can you post the E-Bay auction number so we can have a nosey wink

PS - Welcome smile

I had a 20v N/A for a few years before I got my turbo, and if it's a good one, you won't regret it smile I even got 500 miles out of one tank once.

how do i find the chip you were talking about made by Flea, this would be great.
i picked up the car and its unbelievable i would never have believed the noise!!!!!!!
the cam belt has only done 5k in since it was fitted in 2006 is it worth changing

Re: going to collect a 97 coupe non turbo any tips - 31/03/2010 14:36

Look in the Trader's Section for Flea.

The belts: they should be changed after five years. Inspection would be a *very* good idea, by a specialist. However more importantly the auxiliary belts (the power steering/alternator belts) *must* be inspected annually and changed every two years to be safe. Again, a full inspection by a specialist will put your mind at rest.
