Insurance and mods - 01/08/2006 23:24

Ive got a chip, gauge, prv etc. but never got round to doing anything with them .
Last week i thought i might aswell sort it all out. So, i thought i'de better ring my insurance co (admiral).

After a long wait (they didnt have a clue what the PRV was) they came back to me..... another £500 pounds a year on top of my current premium for just the chip and that the boost valve was unacceptable .
So i wondered how you go about changing insurance companies, and what happens to your no claims mid way through a years cover??

Most insurance companies run a proportional refund scheme which vastly favours them so that if, say, you cancel half-way through the year you get far less than half of your premium refunded. If you're paying monthly the chances are that even if you cancel you'll still owe them money and have to keep up the monthly payments.

You'll also lose that year's no-claims bonus, because they won't award it to you until the end of the year.

IIWY I'd wait until your insurance is due for renewal before you stick the mods on.
