Insuring an LE 20VT; any problems? - Admiral - 11/06/2007 21:11

Hi there - picking up my Red 20VT LE on Fri/Sat this week and went to setup insurance with Admiral. Called them and prob made a mistake mentioning its an LE cause the guy says it isn't listed and he needs to run a query with the underwriters; the reg comes back as std 20VT. Anyone else out there had problems insuring their LE ????

I've got an LE insured with Admiral. I'm pretty sure that it's named as a standard 20VT on the policy - which is what they came up with on the number plate search.
You've got me worried now though - as I'm currently claiming on the policy after someone ran into me!

I got off the phone and ran a quote online, no problems - but it wasn't identified as an LE from the reg. Amazingly the quote online was £421 whereas on the phone it was £580! But the guy on the phone was adamant the LE wasn't on the system and i wouldn't be covered for all the additional items on the LE compared to 20VT...hope your claim goes ok

Moment of truth will come tomorrow. In all other aspects the cover has been great though. No quibbles at all, and a hire car arranged straight away - horrible diesel Passat though °\(

How did you get on with the claim? Admiral called me yesterday and declined the car on basis of non standard parts for the LE! But I can just buy from them online!!...if you have had no problems when actually claiming then its prob ok

This is a common problem.

Some insurers do not list the LE. Tell admiral they are wrong and closest car to it is a late Plus.

I would make very clear that you own an LE not a normal car as if something happens you could be liable. Remembering the LE's higher insurance group etc.

Will try again but their underwriter said no due to 'potential lack of available parts' if involved in an accident....

Tell them they have no idea what they are on about and to F off then call Noel Dazely \:\)

LE shares alot of parts with the Plus. To be honest they are just muppets \:D but I would be very cautious with them

Well - just off the phone from them again; they absolutely will not insure a Fiat Coupe LE; too many 'non-standard parts' - they do seem to have looked into it properly via various web sites; so told them forget it; will need to transfer my NCB from other car to the Coupe - awaiting calls back from Noel Dazely and Greenlight...assume you had no problems with Noel D?

WARNING to any LE owners out there with Admiral insurance; you may not be covered if you claim for a non-std part over and above std 20VT; that is how they have your car classed

The claim seems to be going OK. Not sure if they;ve noticed it's an LE yet though. I'm bracing myself for a battle - I don't think it's going to be easy

An LE is down as a 20v turbo 6 speed 1998 - 1998,

Yes just to confirm Deano's contribution (as the original Mr Online LE - see my ancient site http://www.dtcoupele.cwc.net/index.htm)

I just posted this on another thread (as just going through my insurance renewal and hence reading through this bit of the site for once)....

Agree the registration number does just come up with the standard 20v Turbo.

On most systems you need to amend the car to the specific LE one (which IS in a higher group and hence more expensive), eg typically something like this:
Year 1998 ->
Maker Fiat ->
Model Coupe ->
Engine 1998 ->
Car = Fiat Coupe 20V (6-speed) Turbo 2dr Std 98

That *is* the LE because that was the ONLY 6-speed Fiat Coupe 20V in 1998. The 6-speed variant without the LE bits only came out in 1999 once they'd assessed the market and feedback from the LE.

That's what I've always done since 1999 (in 1998 the insurers hadn't caught up) and never had a problem with my four claims - 3 in first year for break ins, and 1 in 2005 for a traffic light shunt which did specifically cover an LE bit with Elephant (ie the front under bonnet spoiler which had to be replaced).

I think Deetee is right about it. But the problem with these big insurance companies is that they might be really difficult to deal with and sometimes, the fact that it is an LE just complicates things when communicating with them. Just dealt with Dean from noel Dazely after everyones good word about them. They provided a great quote and a service which felt much more personalized. Makes you wonder why bother talking to someone behind a computer in call centres. All you get from them is..'Computer says No......'
