My latest Italian

My latest Italian - 08/11/2012 03:33

As some of you will know I bought an Alfasud in the summer. After a complete body / interior strip, followed by a respray and a refit she is now finished !

She passed her MOT with no advisories, and Paul at Motormech has built me an incredible sounding long-life stainless exhaust (pics to follow)

I always knew I would have another 'Sud one day - as my first 2 cars were a 1.5 saloon in chocolate brown, followed by a cream 1.5TIX.

My latest is a last of the line TI Green Cloverleaf - and is a keeper cool

Here are a few pics :-

That's lovely.

One of my mates is a serial Sud owner too, including a chocolate brown 5 door 1.5 SC. He thought that was the best of them although I reckoned his Ti with breathed on 1.7 motor was better (despite rampant torque steer).

Lovely, I had a 1982 1.5ti when I was 19.

I see you changed back to the correct wheels, are the metric tyres hard to find?

I found setting the engine up a really rewarding job, valve clearances, ignition timing and carb balancing. Once set up it had amazing throttle response. I found BLS in Lincoln very good for any advice needed.

If you're still at IBM and come to work in it, let me know and I'll come and have a drool.

My Dad had one as a company car in the mid 80's. It started to rust within 3 years ooo

Wonderful to see thumb

My first job was with a large Unilever company in Ashford; they used to sell off the company cars belonging to senior management, and I was a serial purchaser. The first one was a Sud 1.3ti; 3 years old and you could work on the engine without opening the bonnet through the rust holes! £250... ran her for a year then bought a Lancia Beta 2l. Another gorgeous car that was completely rotten at three years old. Paid £500 for it and sold it after 18 months for £1200 - mind you there must have been £300 worth of Isopon included.
My final effort was a Mk2 RS2000; great cars all three of them but the Sud was the most fun. That car hooked me on Italiana; my first company car in my own right was an Alfa 33 1.7 Cloverleaf. In gold..... rolleyes . Happy days!

Enjoy your Sud - bloody rare these days and a great car.

V nice Mike. My only Alfa was a 33 1.7 Cloverleaf in met green love One of the few cars I turned a profit on, although that was primarily due to the insurance payout.....

I assume you've still got the Stag though?

Hello AP1 - you can get the metric tyres, they are being re-manufactured but cost over £150 each shocked .

On mine I was very lucky to pick up some of the imperial 6 x 14 speedline wheels on Ebay - from a 33 so I can fit normal tyres, they look exactly the same as the metric wheels which debuted on the 'Sud laugh
