Coupe replaced with Bravo, Few Q's... - 22/02/2014 23:36

Well, I've just picked up my new toy, 08' Bravo 120 Mjet Active Sport FSH. Really pleased with the car. Drove it back from Loughborough to Portsmouth. The gentleman who sold it on behalf of his son was genuine (traffic cop). pointed out every little niggle, was totally honest, and was nice to meet someone who looks after their cars like me.

In only 1 year of ownership he's had: Cambelt, waterpump, EGR, Glowplugs, 4 x new tyres, sprayed some stone chips, all fluids, basically set it up for his son ready for a few years trouble free motoring.

Few niggles are:

Big:
-Steering wheel needs re-aligning,even though tracking has been done and drives dead straight, maybe tracking needs to be redone with steering wheel set centred?

-Gear stick is stiff and doesnt spring back, read up on this and maybe water corrosion in gear cables, or maybe centreing spring, or gearbox oil too thick?

Small:
-Bulb to replace on heater panel
-Needs new handbrake gaitor (easy fix)
-Boot doesn't pop open as much as id like when rear badge pressed.

Im going to look into these but im really happy with the car, fantastic trim, and I have never seen another around portsmouth smile

They aren't common. I have the '08 150 MJet Dynamic which has required only a belt and an exhaust gas recirculator valve other than service items. Had a bit of a discussion with the diverter valve for the windscreen air - not available except as a complete blower assembly - but fixed it with a self-tapper and a lot of swearing.

Got it at 35k as an ex-lease with no history, had been driven by a loon, but it's done pushing 80k in the last two and a half years at low-mid fifties on the (long) commute.

The boot doesn't lift; it just pops off the lock.

Enjoy your new Bravo Darren smile

For alignment there's Southsea MOT which as a laser system for ~£25 or JKM in Hilsea which I believe has just had a new 4 wheel alignment installed for ~£75.

It sounds like our Giulietta has the same boot pop system, it just unlocks.

I have a 120 bravo and a coupe laugh

Mpg figures in the book are well over stated.
We've had ours 10 months and it's not a bad ride. I find the knee airbag anoyying as it impedes a straight leg to the throttle. I also can't find the pollen filter!
Other than that, so far, not had any issues (touch wood).

Boot pops off the catch, it doesn't attempt to self open!

lol, happy with the boot pop now smile Thanks chris, its lovely having a new car. I'll get it over for the wheel alignment next weekend i think, and make sure they centre the steering wheel.

I've joined the fiat forum also, seems a lot of good stuff on there, like here.

I've heard the clutch is the same in the 120, as the 150? would hold a remap to 150 then wink

the biggest gripe is gear changes, clutch is heavy, and I've read its a cable that gets clogged with water maybe? and the brakes seem a bit stiff, all this is compared to the hyundai ix35 I've currently got as a courtesy car, which is so smooth and 1 fingered gear changes, but overall im in love with it smile

No problem with heavy clutch (though you reminded me I have had a new clutch and DMF fitted - so Joe knows how to fix them!)

The pollen filter is accessible (!) through a panel on the right hand side of the centre tunnel, obscured by the clutch and brake pedals. I think it always ends up bent when it goes in...

No wonder I couldn't find it!
I was looking under scuttle and in glove box.... I have misting issues so wanted to replace to see if it improves!

Re: Coupe replaced with Bravo, Few Q's... - 23/02/2014 20:27

from what im reading it seems the bravo FEEL is pretty heavy from standard.

I am comparing this to my ix35 courtesy car, which is effortless to change gear, and brakes so smoothly.. hmmm.

Can this be improved on the bravo?

And is the 120 mjet clutch the same as the 150 mjet?

Barnacle- How is your gear change? does the stick spring back to centre?

Already been in touch with flea for a map, so clutch slipping shouldn't rear its ugly head?!

It centres ok, but I find occasionally I miss 5-4 and end up in 2, which can be a surprise. It can be a bit notchy sometimes.

The gearing in 1st and 2nd is too low, with too big a gap to third, but 3-6 are fine.

Re: Coupe replaced with Bravo, Few Q's... - 23/02/2014 21:20

also the clutch seems to be not as "SMOOTH" releasing as the ix35...

Re: Coupe replaced with Bravo, Few Q's... - 23/02/2014 21:31

Don't know, don't know, haven't driven the ix35 - but I don't find it a bad clutch.

*But* I'm a gentle driver, most of the time. YMMV.

We're considering a 1.4 T-Jet or 150 Sport Multijet amongst others for Mrs Nello........... alot of car for the dollar at the moment

Re: Coupe replaced with Bravo, Few Q's... - 25/02/2014 00:05

Seems very similar issues to our 147 jtd.
Gears dont self center on the 6 speed. Corrosion on the linkage on top of the gear box.
Pollen filter in the same spot. The new filter is usually cut in the middle at edges to aid bending to aid fitting.

We are going to upgrade to a newer bravo i think

Well, n/s rear caliper was seized, New one fitted, plus new rear discs and pads. Tracking being down as I type. New wipers later, New handbrake gaitor soon, and job done smile
