Ferrari 348

Ferrari 348 - 16/09/2014 21:51

Just thought I would share the fact that I have a real want for a Ferrari 348. Yeah I know it would be slower than my coupe, and I also can't afford one. But they have really grown on me and prices are on the rise.. 1x kidney for sale!

Make sure you go for the later models where the suspension was modified...the early ones were slated at the time for rather wayward handling. i.e. they would spin with very little warning. wink

I've always liked the 348 - over the 360 and to some extent the 430..... Still looks fresh to me. They moved the battery to the rear to try to counter the weight balance/handling issue but I'd be happy with any in my garage. Greg20VTurbo on here has/had one....

I think the rear lights really date the car but otherwise it has that classic ferrari shape.

I much prefer the look of the 348 over the 355 now just because there are so many mr2 replica 355 going around. I quite like the rear lights. It's a classic car after all.

Would rather have a dino or a 308 finding a nice one at a decent price would be the challenge.

A Dino complete wreck/rebuild went for over a hundred and fifty grand a couple of months ago...

The 348 looks like a real Ferarri, but is now a 20-25 years old car. Absolute speed and handling must be secondary to the event of owning and driving about in a classic Ferarri. The only thing that puts me off such a car is the availability and prices of parts. And it is another car with a rubber cam belt, right?

The rear of the 348 is the best bit for me! Each to their own.... At least they are 'decent' money for a Fezza - Dino's and the like have gone into orbit for some reason recently. I can see 348's going up shortly....

Exactly! Been there ... smile

Coupe parts are not so bad, except for the belt change, at least here in Germany. Independents are virtually the same price as dealers.

Parts prices has put me off the 4200GT but a Jaguar XK is much easier on the wallet while being similarly interesting, especially here where they are again rare.

I know zero about Ferraris, but I'd far rather have a 328 than a 348 based on looks alone.

Re: Ferrari 348 - 18/09/2014 10:33

That one (328) is prettier!

But it's even older and about 60-70% more expensive??? Probably heading away from the OP's train of thought smile

Re: Ferrari 348 - 18/09/2014 11:17

Exactly - the point is the 348 as far as Italian exotica goes is still relatively cheap at the moment and to me they still look the part. I would not go for a 328 given that every time I'd go to a Ferrari meet and see a 308GTB/S I'd feel like the ugly sister.........

Re: Ferrari 348 - 18/09/2014 11:39

348's are supposedly much nicer to drive than 308's too.
The gearchange on the older stuff is really stiff and clunky.

The Honda NSX was the Ferrari 348's direct competitor.

Here's a video comparing the two...

Re: Ferrari 348 - 20/09/2014 13:24

Just watched that video the Ferrari is so much better looking than the NSX! although has some resemblance!
The NSX from some angles almost looks like a Ford Probe!

Re: Ferrari 348 - 21/09/2014 20:46

The problem is comparing a Honda to a Ferrari, the Honda could be 20 times better but it's a Honda, you have to explain you own an nsx then what it is, with a Ferrari you just say ferrari and it's enough.

Re: Ferrari 348 - 21/09/2014 22:26

Some years ago I witnessed a classic: an open top Ferrari was approached by one of the roses mafia who leap (leapt?) out at traffic lights to try and flog the driver a bunch for the rather attractive young lady in the passenger seat.

"F*** off, I don't need any f***ing roses, I've got a f***ing Ferrari!"

Re: Ferrari 348 - 22/09/2014 15:14

I'm tempted to get a nice 348, always fancied a Ferrari...not sure what the 348 adds to the Coupe rather than a prancing horse, the Coop's styling is better...a 430 or a 360 is where I would like to end up.

The NSX looks more tempting here, good model history etc

Add handling to the list, the 348 is arguably one of the worst handling cars to have ever come out of Maranello.

Re: Ferrari 348 - 23/09/2014 21:58

348's are cool, as are 328's and 308's, and the 355 is just timelessly beautiful - I love all the old school Ferraris so much more than the newer ones. I know that they are not as fast as a coupe with some decent mods, and my RX7 would give any of them a serious beating if all you are looking it is pure performance.

But that's not always the point is it? wink

Re: Ferrari 348 - 23/09/2014 22:16

Agreed - I would not be ragging a 348 if it were in my garage. I'd be happy with the fob in my pocket - so to speak. Funny how some of the not so loved Fezzas' are now being fully welcomed in to the 'club'. 308 GT4's were frowned upon not that long ago as were 400's but are very much coming into 'vogue' now....
