Daily runner suggestions - 01/12/2018 17:57

currently running a 120d series coupe as my daily and it’s just hit the 100k mark and only having have an abs sensor fail..............pretty good going.
However now I’m getting an itch to go back to petrol, when diesel play up they really play up.
Do I quit while I’m ahead ?
The replacement options so far are BMW 330i coupe, BMW 125i coupe or Audi TT 2.0 tfsi 2011 onwards.
The BMW’s have got the same n52 engine only the ecu mapping is different, £400 remap of the 125i gives it 272bhp, rwd na engine that’s known for reliability.
Then there’s the TT, the performance and economy are pretty good and so is its reliability from what I’ve found so far.
Anyone on here had any experience of these cars ?

Nope, though Barmy Bob will be able to give verdict on the TT.

I have heard good things about the Golf R. Plenty of power and good economy apparently. I assume the Leon Cupra and Audi S3 and the Octavia vRS could also fit the bill with similar power (derivatives of the same engine).

The Mk2's are generally reliable cars and there are few horror stories on the owners forum. There have been a few people suffering the 2.0 Tfsi oil problem but TT's seem to have suffered far less from this than other Audi models. Other issues include window regulators, which fail causing windows to stick. There is usually some warning, creaking. The bases of the front leather seats often go saggy too and misting headlamps and rear light connectors seem more common.

I've now driven many TT's and I like them all. The 1.8 is quick-ish but nothing to shout about. I actually prefer the 2.0Tdi to the 1.8 petrol, the high torque makes it a far more driveable car, all Diesels are also Quattro. The 2.0 TT is much quicker and seems fine in 2WD until you drive a Quattro! Then there is the TTS which is a very quick car, hard to believe that there is then the TTRS! There is also a V6 in the range but it tended to be somewhat unreliable, expensive to TAX and even more expensive to run shocked

Handling of the TT is really good, it's only the TTS & RS that start to expose weakness.

Specification differences on TT's are huge. Entry models were very basic and options were often expensive. The S-line Special Edition and later Black editions were the best specified models but even these top of the range cars could have even more stuff added crazy

Our Current TT is a Diesel Amplified Black Roadster with the superb DSG gearbox. It regularly returns 50+ Mpg.

The 335i coupe is an excellent choice smile
Quick refined, handles well and well speced

I had a 330i Coupe for a while. Reliable, pretty quick, thirsty but as dull as ditchwater.
