New car on the drive. Is it a Supercar?

New car on the drive. Is it a Supercar? - 16/09/2021 12:46

I've always had a soft spot for the Audi R8 and recently found myself looking at them on various sale sites and Forums.
I came across one that has a fully documented history and a lot of the major issues and expensive replacements sorted (oil cooler, suspension, aircon pump, clutch, discs and pads all round) and was within budget.

So, tomorrow I pick this up........

R8.1

R8.2

R8.3

R8.4

Yes I know it's only the V8, but the V10s are out of my range.
I'm keeping the A45 but selling my R32. The R8 will be a weekend car when it's dry. When the Yaris arrives, that'll be my daily replacing the A45.

Exciting times smile

I raised a similar question a few weeks ago (not about my car alas) judging by the response I got I think it safe to say it's a supercar. Though it might a little practical and reliable for some tastes!

I like the phrase “ it’s only the V8 “......!

Oh wow

That looks rather smart, good to see that you stayed away from the problematic R-tronic and went for the gated manual, definitely the best choice in the early R8's. Not too sure about the Radio change though, I know the old RNSE is a clunky old beast (The wife's TT roadster still has that system) but the replacement panels needed to fit the alternative radios have never really worked, for me.

I had long expected either an Aston Vantage or an Audi R8 would grace my garage but I chickened out and, as you know, went for the nearly new TT instead.

Not sure if you've seen the Youtube channel of Ben Rayne? But it's worth taking a look. Sadly he suffered one of the worst ownership experiences with his R8. The car caught fire after having some work undertaken to address a misfire. It appears that the quality of the work may have been less than satisfactory and shows just how important it is to ensure you find a good R8 specialist to look after the car.

Lol- now there are two lines you don't hear every day.

Enjoy it "only" being a v8! It looks great.

Not so sure about the Yaris though...

My last Coupe (T318UUT) went over 10 years ago.

A quick look on total carcheck and it looks like it's still on the road.

Agreed, the replacement radio wasn't a good fit.

Anyway, this is all pretty irrelevant as the car fell through. Some issues with the oil cooler, the cooler pipes and a fluid leak were pointed out to me so I pulled out.

However, I've since viewed and driven 2 more R8s (both black and manual) and will choose one of them this week. I'll put a new thread up when I get it.

Sad to hear it fell through but nice to hear that you undertook some diligent checking and were prepared to walk when not totally happy. So many people fall for a car and find it hard to pass it by, often ignoring advice.

The R8 looks stunning in Black, but black is a nightmare to keep clean. At times my biggest regret with my RS is going for black, even the Panther black! shocked laugh

On the advice of another former Coupé owner (Ross in Sussex) I've recently bought a Raceglaze filter for undertaking a final rinse, one of the best things I've ever bought for car detailing!

Indeed it is - or was last time I saw it - alive and well with a forum member in SW Scotland smile

Your old coupe is currently enjoying life in sunny troon
South west Scotland

And took part in the 25th anniversary event this year

Think it’s on 102,000 miles soo plenty of life in her yet

I have bought another impractical family car
A fiat punto cabriolet that I’m going to get moted and use for the winter so I can take coupe off road again this winter and hopefully actually make enough room to put in garage rather than just on the drive

She's looking good! Great to see she's with an enthusiast.

Not looked at the pics. I love a Renault 8 but I wouldn't call it a supercar...

If I am not mistaken some motorist hacks rate the V8 over the V10, due to less weight or something.
Good luck with the purchase of your supercar.

I was out the other day and noticed a Ferrari approaching from behind.
I recognised the registration plate, as a local business man who had a coupe when they first came out.

You should have seen the look of envy on his face as he over took my rattling and clattering coupe, from within his cocoon of ultimate luxury.

He has a supercar, I can afford a super car.
