Jayemm on cars - 17/11/2020 19:49

Just watched Jayemm on cars ( re an Alfa V6 ) in which the Fiat Coupe is mentioned several times.

I thought it was an old reference, but no , Jayemm has just advised me that his utube review of the Fiat Coupe will come out in the 2nd week of December.

You never know one day the royalty by the name of Harry Metcalfe might review a Coupe one day ! Was amused to see that he is finding the latest Ferrari as being so fast ( 30 to 60 in one second ) as simply a licence looser.

Shame he didn't get a decent example to have a go in.

I just watched this. Apparently it was a modified example. Wonder if it was a club member's car?

Re: Jayemm on cars - 18/11/2020 09:13

I just hope he manages to source a decent Coupe as his review of the GTV V6 suffers due to the example he drives.

From what he says during the drive the car needs minimum a laser 4 wheel alignment and rear polybushing with some decent tyres as it doesn't seem to handle well (is it Q2'd?), the exhaust sounds awful, there seems to be no real urgency on acceleration that the Busso definitely has. Why did he choose a car when the owner told him before it basically wasn't up to scratch, his increasing body mass also struggles in the GTV too. He goes on about it being set up as a GT car, when it is a GT car hence the GTV moniker; was he expecting more given the 'Cup' badge?

I'm bias as paying twice the price for a 'Cup'@£15K made no sense for me to the enjoyment or use of the car, this review seems to reflect that. Better to get a decent vanilla V6 Lusso with factory fitted Aero pack and make sure it is set up correctly with a Q2, GTA clutch and flywheel, short shift plate, polybushed rear etc

He's done nothing for the residuals that's for sure 😀

You kept that quiet!!

Don't suppose you can share any of his thoughts yet?

Failing that, what's the spec of your car?

Re: Jayemm on cars - 18/11/2020 15:44

He certainly liked it more than that GTV. I figured as I'd barely driven the coupe myself this year I may as well put it to some use as I do like his youtube channel.

Interestingly he mentioned a flat spot about 4.5K RPM and that's just around where the variable intake valve timing that gives extra ignition advance at low revs switches off, so I assume it was that. Can't say I've ever noticed it myself on this or any other 20vt I've driven but then again I'm not a professional car reviewer, so I think he was just being pretty astute there.

The actual spec is a mystery as I bought it for £700 as a project with absolutely zero service history and about 500 previous owners. A hybrid turbo was mentioned but as it all looks standard it's hard to be sure as some of the other claims made were definitely not accurate. It had a unique custom made one piece exhaust with cat actually in the downpipe, but I had to chop that up by hand and fit a standard downpipe and cat to get through emissions test at last MOT.

Oh what you mean a 16v n/a version of the Fiat Coupe?

Very short video but he liked it. I think he needs a tastefully modified one now.

Graham, just saw this and posted in another area. I did think it was yours😎

Glad you could lend him your car Graham - it looked and sounded great! smile
I think yours has the best seats available too but I was intrigued by the replacement gear knob? chinny
I certainly agree with him about the brakes, I've always thought them the weak point of the coupe when taking it for a vigorous jaunt!

You did well at 700 quid Graham - the plus seats would make at least a grand in the current market! Nice one.

It's from a Grande Punto. It screws on so I had to thread the top of the metal shaft, then use a little epoxy glue to secure it. Goes well with the interior though.

A few examples of how it looked when I got it :

So not quite the bargain it sounds at £700. smile

I’ll second that.

Grande Punto gear lever knobs will become sought after...

They do 6 speed as well, so good for replacing worn out Plus gear knobs

Re: Jayemm on cars - 13/12/2020 10:59

I have one fitted and personally I don't find it a particularly pleasant gear knob to use. The tall feel to the gear stick when sitting in the car does not suit the shape of the knob which feels (to me) like it is more suited to the drivers hand being higher over the stick. The ergonomics of the original are better with a larger radius at the front but I guess its not a bad replacement.
