I tend to agree eldinho.
A little background to the story probably wouldn't go a miss.
My guess would be it was one of those intense short lived relationships that tend to burn out like a flare anyway.
She either truely doesn't listen or he (in a bid to get a little time to himself) only half mentioned the possibility of the trip in passing.

I see this completely differently. If the pair of them were supposed to be in love, and if he did tell her quite clearly that he was going to Europe (is that a country, by the way - like Paris?), then she would know about it. I don't think he told her.
If you make that assumption, her response to being ignored seems reasonable to me.
