Anyone that hasn't listened to Splash - a journey into Electro, I'd urge you to do so, it's probably my favourite mix of all time. I'm always listening to your mixes Dan, and long may it continue!

Re: My DJ Mixes - 11/11/2009 13:02

Yes I was gutted when MusicV2 went down too. I have a mix which is funky above, but it progresses into a prog/techy vibe towards the end.

Do you mix or do you mean that you listen to "funky" music? If you mix then upload some of your stuff onto house-mixes.com and send me a link.

Re: My DJ Mixes - 11/11/2009 17:35

i dabble (i'm a bedroom dj laugh )
i can basically mix, and ive got a decent starter/intermediate setup (numark TT decks and mixer) but no-where near ready to publicly upload anything blush

most of my vinyl is funky house, with a few bits of trance thrown in. never really got into cdj's though.

a friend of mine taught me a while ago, hes pretty well know in the local electro scene.

every heard of housenationuk?

Re: My DJ Mixes - 11/11/2009 21:37

I'm only a bedroom DJ. If you not ready to upload anything onto a public forum yet, you should send me a link to one of your mixes via PM. I'll see if I can give you any advice.

I've never heard of housenationuk, but I don't know much about the electro scene. Like I said, I'm just a self taught bedroom DJ who downloads tracks I like and mixes as a hobby. I've never tried to get a job as a working DJ.

I started off with a Gemini turntable set up and I have approx 600-700 vinyl records. I've owned all the top end gear from Pioneer, Technics, Allen + Heath etc... I used to make a fair bit of money buying and selling DJ equipment on the net. I know what you mean about CDJ's. I wasn't convinced at first but now I'm converted. It's just so much easier to search/download tracks rather than searching through vinyl in the shops. You also don't have the expense of replacing carts and stylus.

I listened to 4 of these mixes at work yesterday and loved them. I’m not usually into this type of music either, usually listen to more Indie/rock music! Good work!! smile

I like these Dan - nice stuff. I'm very tempted to splash out on some cdj1000mk3s, they have all the features anyone could want.

Re: My DJ Mixes - 13/11/2009 15:14

Thank Panic. I'll check out your mixes.

Strike4A I have owned CDJ1000MK3's and they are a fantastic deck. If I was you I would go for the new CDJ900 instead. It will be released within the next couple of weeks. It costs about the same but is a much newer advanced model. Or you could go for the CDJ2000 if your feeling flush!

Re: My DJ Mixes - 13/11/2009 16:35

Sorry, meant the 2000s i.e. the ones that came out a couple of months ago. The usb interface and needle search pad are great additions. Punchy price though.
Posted By: DanTheManc

Re: My DJ Mixes - 13/11/2009 17:15

Pioneer have always been expensive but £3000 a pair is just crazy!

The additional features are good but nothing to revolutionary. After all the hype and teaser photos they are a bit of a let down imo. They are the best decks available and I like the large screen and the needle drop, but I'm sticking with my Denons.

Re: My DJ Mixes - 17/11/2009 01:43

Thanks for your kind comments pfoe. No I'm not a working DJ. I did get offered a job in Tenerife once, but declined as I had a mortgage and what not in England. I've never sent a demo out or even tried to get a DJing job either.

Shifty there are thousands of mixes on that site. I don't really have any favorites but here are a few links to a couple of my favorites lesser known DJs

www.djames.ca - house and electro
www.marcstokes.com - vocal funky and jackin house
www.petetrimby.com - funky deep house

(If above links don't work change .com to .co.uk)

And for well known DJs try

Re: My DJ Mixes - 15/12/2014 14:44

Thread resurrection!

As some of the old skool fccukers may remember I used to do a bit of Djing and upload them on here. Unfortunately I reluctantly sold my equipment about 5-6 years ago to make way for a nursery (kids are overrated!).

Anyway, the missus was watching the xfactor final and I was bored so I decide to have a dabble at making some mixes for the car on my laptop using only software and earbuds. The house mixes both get a bit heavy towards the end and venture into other genres which might be a little much for some but these were made for my car rather than publicly sharing.

Bear in mind these are my first attempts at mixing using software and I've not DJ'd in years so maybe a little rough around the edges! These are available to stream and/or download.

XFactor is back on so I got my laptop out and made another mix for the car whilst the missus watches it. Vocal house mix of some popular and lesser know tracks. Available to stream or download below.

After selling my DJ equipment around 8yrs ago after my first child was born, I decided to buy myself some new toys at the weekend.

Pioneer XDJ-RX Controller
Pioneer HDJ-1500 Headphones
KRK Rokit RP6 G3 Monitors Speaker.

I'm very rusty and things have moved on over the last 8 years but I can't wait to get back into it.

Seems it so far. There are other controllers which have a few more tricks up their sleeve but they require you to use a laptop whereas this is stand alone which is what I wanted.

I've only used it for a couple of hours so far and I'm very impressed. It's much easier to mix nowadays as skills like beat matching isn't needed and you have visual aids to tell you when there's breakdown in the track and where each phrase starts. It's a shame in a way that anybody can buy some gear and then they're able to do mixes in a matter of days to a standard which would have taken 6 months of practice.

I don't have anywhere in my house where I can keep it set up. At the moment I have the speakers on a shelf in my conservatory and I'm using my ironing board as a deckstand laugh then when im dome the controller is stored down the side of a chest of drawers in the corner of the room.

Haha cheers, Matt. That mix is older than my kids and my eldest is 8yrs old.

Electro has more of a pop sound nowaday, so probably not. The majority of tracks used for Splash were known as dirty electro tracks. I still like listening to stuff with deep, heavy basslines so hopefully you'll enjoy my newer stuff. Although, not many people do!
