Formula One - 13/12/2012 13:26
Thought we should maybe have a new thread to cover any out of season goings on.
I'll start the ball rolling
With This funne how they refer to him as 'former sports journalist' seeing as he's been the head of Mercedes motorsport for over 20 years (one for Enforcer that)
Be amusing if Ron Dennis joins them

Ron Dennis joining Merceded
He has a major shareholding in Mclaren so can't see that ever happening. Max Chiltern to Maurissia? I thought they were folding?
Joe Saward says it is part of Jean Todt's "Frenchification" of the FIA and everyone outside is baffled at Hartstein's departure...
Suzi Perry to take Jake's place in F1 - quite happy about that

Yes good news in more ways than one
More love for Suzi than Luca di Montezemolo is showing to Bernie. Understandably.

Excellent feature on Ron Dennis, how he got into F1 and built Mclaren to be the powerhouse it is today.

Re: Formula One - 21/01/2013 19:55
That's not the new car, it's not being unveiled until Feb 4th. All Mercedes are trotting out currently are pictures of Lewis looking decidedly grumpy for someone who's getting a 17.5 mil salary!
So,
according to the BBC, not only has Toto Wolff moved from Williams to Mercedes, but apparently, Paddy Lowe has left McLaren to go in the same direction, leading to Ross Brawn and Nick Fry quitting Merc.
I wonder how much of this Lewis Hamilton either knew about or prompted...

Re: Formula One - 22/01/2013 13:20
OMG, Ross Brawn out. Maybe inevitable seeing as he was a package with MSC but still a shock. Here are muy views.
I like Brawn but a crital look back now at his amd Michaels 7 championship years shows some flaws.
The Benneton title was won with banned traction control, something suspected by all including Senna.
The Ferrari years were borne out of a significant tyre advantage, and the last two seasons have showed how much that matters. Then the Brawn Button win was courtesy of the head start the double diffuser had. The car was compromised later in the season because of the late change of engine supplier when Honda pulled out. This takes nothing away from Schumaker ro Button as drivers, after all they still consistently beat good team mates.
The Mercedes years showed some Brawn innovation too with the double DRS but these were not dominant factor that the double diffuser had been and arguably they spent to much on what was a qualifying trick anyway. So the skills required now, which are incremental grinding changes (something Mclaren excel at) are not really Ross's bag. Playing with Wings/Exhaust exits and reacting to major rule changes is where Ross and his team excel.
If Brawn still wants it (and I'm not sure he does), there would most likely be a few offers from some decent teams. And a few crap ones...

Not a great start at Merc for Hamilton.
I can imagine he'll be Mr Grumpy if he was unaware of the imminent departure of Brawn and Fry.

Well, Brawn, anyway...

Hamilton interview on the BBC website reports that he says his first season at Merceded will be tough. SO why move
I do think though that they could be competative whne the new rules and angines come in 2014. There are already reports that they will have an advantage over non engine manufacturer teams in that they will be building the engine and the chassis to complement each other. Also if Brawn stays he is the best person to react and push the rule boundaries. Will be interesting to see how Lewis reacts to a season of mid grid qualifying. Fascinated too to see how the dynamics work with Nico and how they will compare.
Can't wait for the first tests on the 5th Feb
In a sense, I can see the logic of Hamilton moving now and it rests with the 2014 changes. Mercedes (as you suggest, bockers) will have several key advantages when the new rules come in. If Hamilton had waited to move until next year, he would have been faced with a car designed around a different driver/driving style. As it is, he will be an integral part of the 2014 Mercedes F1 package, which I can see would be a hugely tempting concept if the paddock wisdom about Mercs chances proves correct.
However, if this time in 2015 Hamilton isn't World Champion, I think there will be a lot of "told you so"s...
Can't wait!

Looks like 15 minute highlights to me...
The scheduling details of Sky Sports’ coverage of the first Formula 1 test of the 2013 season from Jerez have today been confirmed. Alongside the Sky Sports News live daily updates with Rachel Brookes or Craig Slater, the channel will be airing 15-minute ‘segments’ of each day – all in one go on Saturday 9th February. There is nothing currently scheduled for each day from Tuesday 5th February, and nor is there coverage on the channel of the car launches. At the moment, the schedule is as follows for Sky Sports F1:
Saturday 9th February
12:00 – F1: Testing Day 1
12:15 – F1: Testing Day 2
12:30 – F1: Testing Day 3
12:45 – F1: Testing Day 4
—-
14:00 – F1: Testing Day 1 (R)
14:15 – F1: Testing Day 2 (R)
14:30 – F1: Testing Day 3 (R)
14:45 – F1: Testing Day 4 (R)
—-
18:00 – F1: Testing Day 1 (R)
18:15 – F1: Testing Day 2 (R)
18:30 – F1: Testing Day 3 (R)
18:45 – F1: Testing Day 4 (R)
Friday 15th February
18:30 to 19:30 – The F1 Show
What the 15-minute shows will consist of is unknown, but it will likely be a few interviews from each day along with clips of the action.
Also of note is that The F1 Show will be repeated on the main Sky Sports channels throughout this year. Given how poorly the 20:00 editions of The F1 Show performed last year, I wouldn’t be surprised if 18:30 is a permanent slot for the F1 Show going forward for the studio editions.
It is possible that the above may change, if so I will update this blog post.
If anyone is on Vodafone, there'a free draw for tickets to go to Barcelona for a day of testing as a Vodafone VIP...
I entered, but I never win anything, so if anyone else wants a go...?!

And my god it was boring at times last year. Plenty of hours staring at empty tracks.
I don't think there is any danger of not having it on Sky, they are desparate for material for the channel. So suspect it will be in full.
OK, I never win anything worthwhile!

Good, but the same thing happened in 2012 until the teams got to grips with them. Let's hope 2 pit stops last all year.

Looks pretty. And pretty similar to last year's car, yet McLaren claim to have been radical in their approach... Time to hurry up and wait!

Ferrari and Force India have broken cover today too. Flat noses for both.
Looks as though nobody will be able to see where they're going again this year... The Ferrari looks incredibly long from cockpit to tip of nose.

Agree, The ferrari nose is increadably flat and has a sharper edge than the McLaren.
