Any runners on here?

Any runners on here? - 27/02/2016 20:12

Got a 10k tomorrow, and my training has been hampered by winter weather and a cold I can't shrug off. So, I'm about 2 weeks behind where I should be.... so my time is going to be bobbins.

Then I've got the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff at the end of March. Would you believe I'll be running in the same race as Mo Farah shocked but then he will be at least an hour ahead of me though laugh

Anyone else doing the Cardiff one, or any other?

How's your training going?

I enjoy running but I'm a casual runner.

I did the Great South Run last year in a time of 1hr33min but I didn't train for it.

I quite fancy the picnic marathon but it looks really difficult.

I say I'm a "casual" runner too. Definitely for the enjoyment, rather than the competitions. Today is only my second ever 10k. I'm using the race to make sure I get out running regularly.... I need the deadline ! I must admit, I am nervous about the half marathon. I've only got 4 weeks to go and I'm way behind.

By the way, 1:33 is a good time with no training.

Good on you for entering - it is a great way to motivate yourself.

The HM will be brilliant - carnival atmosphere, energy drinks as you go round and a real high to run with so many other people.

I'm doing Reading again this year but am badly out of practice after I broke my wrist in a stupid fall off the bike in January. I have the same 4 weeks to get in shape.

How did you get on with the 10k?

Yeah. Thanks mate. I've done one half marathon before and it was tough. It is a serious distance and makes you realise how hard a full marathon is.

The 10k was good. Great weather and atmosphere. Was very busy so was having to dodge groups of walking runners on narrow tracks.

Managed 55 mins which is a bit slower than I wanted, but happy enough.

Good luck with Reading HM.

Thanks! I ran a slow 10k yesterday and the legs are feeling tight. I guess you're aiming for sub-2 hours with that pace?

Fantastic, well done. That's a great time taking everything into consideration.

I took up running (jogging at first!) a couple of years ago. Since then I've run 5 10ks and last November my first half Marathon. Best 10k was sub 55 and in my half I staggered across the line in 2hr 4m. Doing the half made me realise how difficult a full Marathon would be!

Unfortunately my training has had to stop as I've a stress fracture of Fibula. 5 weeks into an 8 week layoff. I'm meant to be doing a Half at the end of April but don't think I'll have enough training done.
