Did you see the Fabien Cancellara video?

Looks like Bouhanni's out - more chances for Cav.

Brits are being mighty impressive in this Tour. Froome now in yellow, Yates in white and the Manx Missile in green

What I like is the cleverness of all the stage wins. Mark Cavendish is unbelievable in the way he knows the right wheel to get on and then finds his way to the front, but nobody could have expected Froome's charge today.

No idea how Froome managed to keep up that speed and maintain balance going down those passes in that position! Great stuff yet again from the Brits though thumb

He hit 94kph, that 58mph! I've hit 50 on a hill by Beaconsfield but that was for seconds and it was a sphincter clenching moment

Re: Tour De France - 10/07/2016 11:53

I've done 59.5mph (60 near as dammit) - the speed was ok but I started to get shimmy which was my saddle-clenching moment. I didn't actually know how fast I was going otherwise I'd have been more concerned - not least because I was a very long way from a hospital (I was in the Cairngorms)

I'm guessing this was on a downhill stretch of the Old Military Rd?
I've just recently returned to cycling and couldn't be further from peak fitness, but I hit 43mph there a couple of weeks ago. I can't describe how exhilarating it was.

Yes - down from Glenshee with a very strong tailwind

It's an excellent stretch of road. I'm slowly rebuilding the muscles in my right leg, so the long uphill stretches are perfect. Met a few less than perfect drivers though.

Re: Tour De France - 10/07/2016 12:50

52mph was my best when I was about 14 years old on my 5 gear racing bike. It was a very long steep hill. With one of those old cable speedo's.

Lots of screaming for joy etc.

Don't know my fastest - but I triggered the 40mph speed cameras on Highgate Hill once...

I've had shimmy in the mid 40s and it was terrifying - felt like the bike frame had turned into jelly. Can't imagine it at 60. I checked it out and you are supposed to get your ar$e off the saddle to kill the pendulum effect.

Amazing to see the Froome Sagan breakaway the other day. It looks like he's having some fun this year.
