Neighbours!

Neighbours! - 12/02/2017 19:36

I live in a semi detached so already have one cloud9 next to me that likes playing loud music and can't shut her doors without slamming them and making the whole house shake - I do the same to retaliate, yet she hasn't learnt grr

I've recently had new neighbours the other side of me and today, they've decided to attach a gate to the side of their house, but using my fencing too grr
Seems like they've fixed a gate onto their house, but using my fence panel too.
I paid over 3K to have fencing put up around my boundaries and these cheeky f**kers haven't even had the decency to ask if they can use my fence panel as support or whatever they're doing.

If I need to take the fence panel out to paint or replace, I can't, due to their attachments.

It's a council house, so am going to see the tenants tomorrow and then the council.

I'm f**king fuming that they didn't even have the decency to ask me first.

What is it these days with people thinking they've got the right to do whatever the f**k they want grr

Ah Theresa, that's a real pain to say the least. Having crappy neighbours who please themselves is no joke. If left to their own devises, they can have quite an effect on your day to day living. Of no help to yourself, in my neck of the woods I'm very lucky indeed, apart from the odd yappy dog, life is gentle & easy going. Hope you get things sorted out.. smile

I need to win the lottery so I can go and live on an island somewhere, away from people!

I don't like people much anyway and living around here takes my hatred to another level grr

I really wish I could be somewhere where there was just the odd yappy dog.

I despise humans more and more each day (present company accepted) and wish I could be away from the lot of them frown

I feel exactly the same!

I am currently very lucky as I have two very quiet single ladies either side of me but there is still the people that live the next one down..hmm

If you own the fence you are within your rights to tell them to remove it!
Best to speak to them to nip it in the bud, you should also then discover if they are just naive and thoughtless or just assholes
Hope you sort it!

That's when good neighbours become goood friends......

Re: Neighbours! - 13/02/2017 05:45

There's an odd bit of legislation called the Shared Wall Act or something along those lines. It says what parties can do to your wall, sometimes with and sometimes without permission - you probably need to check it out.

Re: Neighbours! - 13/02/2017 06:17

As far as my memory serves, that ^ all depends on if it is jointly owned and considered to be on the boundary straddling both sides but if Theresa owns the fence and it is solely on her property i.e. upto the boundary then this does not apply
Posted By: Theresa

Re: Neighbours! - 13/02/2017 07:40

It's on the boundary as I had it put there to replace old hedging and chain link fencing.

The houses either side of me are council owned and obviously nobody paid towards the fencing, so I paid for it myself, so it's my fence.

I haven't seen how their gate has been attached yet, but from what I can see so far, it's stopping me from taking the fence panel out if I needed to paint, repair or replace it.

Re: Neighbours! - 13/02/2017 08:26

Just been around there and she said she didn't realise and will see if the person/builder (I'm not sure who was doing it) can move it.

I've said if it can be attached to the concrete post without damaging it then I don't mind as much as I'll still be able to get the fence panel out if I need to.

Even though she didn't think to ask or didn't realise I wouldn't be able to get the panel out, the person who attached the gate to my fencing would have known grr

Re: Neighbours! - 13/02/2017 11:11

Just spoke to them again and they said they'll ask the lad that did it to move it.

They seem pleasant enough anyway (at the moment) laugh

Will wait and see now.

Always worth the punt of keeping an even keel with neighbours in my experience, you never know when they (we) can be useful e.g. potential car thieves/damagers, thieves etc
Posted By: coupedummy

Re: Neighbours! - 13/02/2017 15:06

I understand your pain, when we moved detached was explicitly one factor we wanted and wasn't budging on it.
Very lucky we found it and have a lot of space away from the neighbours.
In our old semi the neighbours had a bangra drum that they liked to play very sat and Sunday morning.

I had one of my old Astra GTE's smashed up, beer can through the back window, etc., rang the police 3 times before they came out, although it was early hours of new years day, so probably busy, yet all the noise and commotion and not one f**king neighbour came to see what was going on and if I was ok.

My neighbours will never be useful and I'd never ask them for anything!

I've just come home and found a wooden baton has been thrown over my fence grr Luckily no nails in it as one of my dogs ran over it in her excitement to get out. That's now been thrown back into their garden grr

I have another c**tt opposite me who keeps parking his f**king van over my drive meaning I really struggle to get on my drive when I get home grr

Then from 8am onwards, I'll have the c**tt that's attached to me slamming her front door every 2 minutes, making the whole house shake grr

AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH grr grr grr

Re: Neighbours! - 14/02/2017 00:13

I know Simon, I wasn't having a go at you, sorry. Just trying to explain how it is where I live frown

It's just that some of my neighbours really are horrible, or maybe it's me being a lot less tolerant and becoming worse as I get older and despising people more and more.
There's other neighbours that are ok, especially one that lives opposite me (not the prick that parks his van over my drive who's also opposite me), he's always been considerate, takes my parcels in, etc.
If I won the lottery, he's the only one I would tell that I'm leaving and probably give him some money too.

Re: Neighbours! - 14/02/2017 00:29

It's a bit awkward to show on photos, just how hard it is to get a Coupe on the drive when the van is parked so far over where the kerb drops.

click to enlarge click to enlarge

It's easy to get out of the drive, as I have to turn right, it's when I'm trying to get on the drive, I have to pull up alongside the van and then try and reverse around it without hitting my gatepost, his van and my old Coupe grr

As said, the photos don't truly show how awkward it is frown

I should just knock on their door when I'm home after midnight and hand them the Coupes keys and tell them to try and get it on the drive rolleyes

While I'm on Photobucket, here's a photo that's been taken of my car by someone and posted on the Facebook group 'Parking like a t**t in Wrexham' laugh

It's a Lidl car park and I'm parked at the furthest end possible, where nobody usually parks, but someone decided they liked my car parked over two spaces so much, they'd take a photo:

I am officially a t**t laugh

move to England, we get nothing like this over here. Cups of tea whilst chatting over the garden fence, children's laughter in the distance, birds cheeping away, sun's always shining ,etc etc. My friend moved to Bangor county court as chief clerk[ top honcho] and the staff had a sit-in and refused to work with her as she was english. You have the dragon and we have the rose, says it all really !!.............and yes your parking is diabolical yes yes laugh laugh laugh

Re: Neighbours! - 14/02/2017 14:09

Chin up Theresa, rise above it. Only one wee story sticks out with me a few years back about neighbors. I still have a laugh at my self when telling this. Few years back, home from work Friday night & all for R&R. Into the shower, back down stairs in my evening attire hippy Any way what the hell is that noise? confused Our gable end is directly on to a pavement on a corner. Outside I go & here are a dozen or so teenagers congregating & for some reason kicking & jumping on my house..

Go back to bed granddad, some youth retorts. Just bugger off the lot of you I replies, & another thing I'm just out of the shower, I'm not going to bed untill much later silly It didn't dawn on me what a prize I looked until I told the wife what all the noise was outside. All a bit lame, but I saw the funny side... laugh

Re: Neighbours! - 14/02/2017 16:33

Theresa, I just watched John Wick II, want me to come round and 'fix' the neighbours while the movie plot is still in my head?

Oh, I said movie plot in the same sentence as John Wick, there wasn't one, but if you like guns, bullets, knives, exploding heads and death then I just ruined the film for you.

The tw@at with the van is over my drive again tonight ffs.

I swear to god, I'm about 1mm away from snapping and f**king killing someone.

I work hard and paid a lot of money for the driveway, dropped kerb and gates, etc and after coming home from being out for over 9 hours I have some tw@t that thinks it's fine to park over it grr grr

That film, The Purge, needs to become reality grr

Re: Neighbours! - 14/02/2017 23:42

Up here I'm fairly sure it's illegal to park across a driveway, even if it's your own!

Something to do with emergency service access I believe...
Posted By: Theresa

Re: Neighbours! - 15/02/2017 01:03

I've looked into all this and it seems that people can block your driveway if they want , as long as they don't stop you from exiting. Trying to get back on your driveway doesn't seem to matter around here, according to the rules/law, etc.

I've looked into the white 'H' bar that goes across the drive, but didn't see the point in paying for that when people will still park over it and it's not enforcable.

I'm putting a note through their door later and if it keeps happening then I'm going to start knocking on their door when I get home at midnight or just after and hopefully wake them up.

Why are people so inconsiderate and just general c**ts these days? grr As long as they are ok, who gives a f**k about anyone else?
If I could afford to re tax and re insure my old Coupe, I would and would push it out onto the road to take up the parking space near my drive!
Posted By: H_R

Re: Neighbours! - 15/02/2017 05:57

My wife and I was talking about this the other day, it seems that nobody is considerate anymore and as long as they are ok nobody else matters!

I personally would make a point of waking them up when you get home and hopefully they are in bed and it inconvenients them!

Re: Neighbours! - 15/02/2017 06:42

is the car in front of this van always there, is there room for him to park elsewhere on the street or does he do this as there is nowhere else to park . Seems strange he always blocks your drive ? Does he live next door ? He does sound like an inconsiderate t@@t .
Posted By: Theresa

Re: Neighbours! - 15/02/2017 08:58

The car in front of the van also belongs to the same house, so that could be moved up to allow the van more room.

There's not usually anywhere else to park outside the house, but could be parked further up the street.

The van belongs to the house opposite me that you can see to the left of the photo.

People park on my side of the street as it's too narrow for parking on both sides.

I had the drive built years ago due to issues with trying to get parked, especially with me coming home at midnight as I would never be able to get parked up at that time as everyone is home.

Re: Neighbours! - 20/02/2017 23:45

Well, I stayed calm and went across the road for a word with the man with the van on Saturday at a reasonable time of 4pm, rather than going across there ranting at midnight laugh

He seemed ok and moved the car and then his van up as much as he could and said he would park the van at his mates. I said there was no need to if he just parked it further along, rather than over my drive.
Since Sunday night, a smaller van has been parked over my drive, but not as much as the original van, but still makes it awkward for me.
So I think he's parking his van at his mates and taking his mates van to park outside my house rolleyes

As for the ones with the gate/gate supports attached to my fencing, well, I went to see them last Monday and they said they'd sort it as soon as they could, so left it at that.
I heard banging and the sound of a cordless screwdriver on Sunday, but as they've been doing work in the garden, didn't think anything of it.
Tonight, I've walked down my path to get my bins ready for collection later and noticed that they haven't moved or done anything regarding the gate supports attached to my fencing, but just finished the job off with the side panel they were missing.

I f**king give up, they are just c***s that do what the f**k they want regardless grr

Why be nice about it to my face and promise to ask the 'workman' about taking the supports off my fence panel, but then proceed to carry on with the job grr

Re: Neighbours! - 21/02/2017 09:45

If your luverly neighbour is in a Council/Corporation property then they 'should' need permissions to make alterations to their accommodation or curtilage - which if reasonable is not refused by Councils.

Perhaps you can make inquiries with the housing section and get them to confirm what permissions they have given... and if they have given it, what is the route for you to claim damage to your property (a now modified fence panel) and encroachment.

If they say no permission has been given then you go to the Council to make a complaint on the Council not controlling the tenancies and not making regular inspections.

Their is absolutely NOTHING stopping you removing your fence panel whenever you want to regardless of what is attached the other side.

Cite The Part Wall Act as your basis for complaint, and as the Council is the freeholder in this instance it is up to them to correct the wrongdoing.

Its going to cost the Council many hours in administration costs but that is irrelevant to the tort imposed upon you or the damages that you could potentially also claim, even if thats just the cost of a new fence panel.

Sorry to read all this Theresa, I hope this all gets resolved amicably and without any stress.

Re: Neighbours! - 23/02/2017 20:24

Maybe find something that you can park in front of your house that stops the van. And just leave it there, in a place that lets you get out.

As for the fence, definitely contact the council, and/or the housing association that owns the house.

It all sounds very annoying.

Re: Neighbours! - 23/02/2017 23:32

When I've stripped my old Coupe, I might just push it onto the road and when they find it's not taxed or insured, it might get taken away for free for me laugh

As for the fencing and informing the council, I'm not sure whether to now as it might go on record and I decided last week that I'm giving myself a year to sort the stuff out that I've hoarded over the years and sell up next year and move into rented accomodation.
Could a dispute damage a house sale next year?

I feel a lot happier that after 27 years of putting up with inconsiderate neighbours, which has just got worse year after year, I will hopefully be free of them all next year smile

After todays winds and rain, I'm also 2 fence panels short of a complete fence too laugh
I managed to salvage one and earlier spent 2 hours battling the elements to try and get it back in place, but just dragged the other one off the neighbours path into my garden and left it.
Now their privacy is exposed and I hope they hate it as much as I do laugh

Re: Neighbours! - 25/02/2017 14:02

I think you can complain to the council anonymously, or at least privately. It might not be a formal dispute, simply you are telling the council that one of their tenants is doing something that is inconsiderate or illegal.
Posted By: H_R

Re: Neighbours! - 27/02/2017 06:18

you have to declare any disputes when selling your house, the detail required is down to the purchasers solicitor

What you have previously mentioned, i doubt would class as a dispute as i guess you need to disagree on something that then goes official with mediation of some sort

I know noise complaints are anonymous

If you are definitely selling i would just do anything you can but keep shy of going official and then delete these posts hehe

Re: Neighbours! - 27/02/2017 23:31

I went around to the council office about 10am (hadn't read your post then H_R frown )
They said they were short staffed today, but have said they will send someone around to the neighbour regarding the gate, etc. She said they need permission to do stuff like that to the house. I said I didn't care what they did to the house, my concern is my fencing and that they need 'my' permission to do stuff like that to my property grr

Noise complaints may be anonymous, but after I'd complained 3 times about the neighbour attached to my house, they said they could put noise recording equipment in, but would have to inform the neighbour it's there rolleyes What's the f**king point? grr

White van man hasn't got his van parked over my drive tonight, but his Mrs has her shitreon parked over it instead rolleyes

Jesus, I can't f**king wait to leave here next year. I like my house, I just hate the people I'm surrounded by grr
